V&J Auto’s sweep champions late teammate Runge

There was no stopping V&J Auto in the Marcus Hook Softball Nation A Division championsh­ip series Sunday. They were playing for more than a title.

Dan Lucas, Robert Stinson and Joe Yanuzzi were perfect at the plate in the opener, and Mike Pennington, Harry Duke and Mike Flaherty did the same in the nightcap as V&J topped 39 North Sell twice, 30-3 and 118, to win the championsh­ip.

The team dedicated the title to former teammate Brian Runge, who passed away in May.

Lucas and Stinson both went 4-for-4, while Yanuzzi was 2-for-2 in support of winning pitcher Jon Fanelli. Pennington, Duke and Flaherty all went 3-for-3 to stake Stinson to the win in Game 2. One of Pennington’s hits was a home run. RAT PACK 15-9, KEYSTONE 7-8 » Jim Toy and Mike Thompson went 5-for-8 to stake the Rat Pack to the C Division crown. Toy also earned the save in Game 2. Jason Stafford was the winner in each game.

Millennium Sunday

Mike “Tuna” Buscella was mobbed after his walk-off single in Game 3 gave RP McMurphy’s the B Division title over Pogue Mahones.

A total team effort enabled RP to take Game 1, 20-6, and Game 3, 9-8. Pogue Mahone’s spoiled the sweep with a 1614 triumph in Game 2. QUAN TA SLURRICANE­S 6-4-16, APPLEGATE 5-6-6 » Another total team effort combined with a pair of wins by Jim Broadbelt powered the Slurricane­s to the A Division title. UPLAND A.C. 7-15-14, RAM’S HEAD 0-16-11 » A 10-zip deficit in Game 3 could not stop UAC from reaching the C Division championsh­ip round.

Kenny’s Smith’s two-run double in the sixth inning of Game 3 put Upland up for good. Smith, Glen Stannon and Charles Short (HR) all went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Cody D’Amicos was 3-for-3 with a dinger and two ribbies. THE STRETCH 23-9, DUFFER’S PUB 2-8 » Tom Lacey’s walkoff hit completed the C Division semifinal sweep. John Kildea, Tim Cook and Ryan Blakemore went 3-for-3 in the opener. Rich Longo added a two-run homer. J.D. MCGILLICUD­DY’S KIRKLYN DUCKS 5-2-9, CASEY’S SALOON PEACOCKS 0-12-7 » In the opener, Joe Kerley tossed the shutout and Brian Leposki was 3-for-3 with a double. Joe Carlile slugged two homers and Rian Sloan was 3-for-3 with two runs scored in Game 3 to send the Ducks into the D Division championsh­ip. BARNABY’S/MORAN ELECTRIC 11-10-15, MARTY MAGEE’S HOPPS 9-21-5 » Sam Cellucci went 6-for-7 with five RBIs and five runs scored in Games 1 & 3 to put Barnaby’s/Moran in the E Division semis. Mike Brown added six hits and six RBIs.

Lee Tadalan went 8-for-9 as Big Bad BBQ topped T&R Flooring twice, 9-5 and 2412. Rich Cropper (3-for-4), Pam Rambo (two hits) and Becca Stanley (two hits) were key contributo­rs in the opener. Dan Crowley Sr. (4for-4) and Jackie Perretta (3-for-4) came up big in the nightcap.
