Eddystone man gets prison for child-porn rap
MEDIA COURTHOUSE » An Eddystone man who tried to get a 16-yearold girl to send him naked pictures over Skype was sentenced to 24 to 60 months in a state correctional facility Thursday after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility.
Bryan J. Doyle, 37, of the 700 block of Saville Avenue, was arrested in August 2016 following an investigation by the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division and the Pennsylvania Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
CID Detective Edmond Pisani, Detective Kenneth Bellis of ICAC and State Police Cpl. Michael Fegley executed a search warrant at Doyle’s home Aug. 3, according to a release from District Attorney Jack Whelan’s office.
Doyle, an apprentice with the Local 98 electrician’s union, was home with his girlfriend at the time. He stated that he was the only one who uses the computers and a file sharing network in his home, according to the release.
Authorities seized the computers and located four videos and 46 images of child pornography through a forensic audit. Skype messages were also found between Doyle and a 16-year-old girl in which he asked her to send him naked images.
The Skype message log indicated Doyle was aware of the girl’s age, and that Doyle was attempting to use a program to trick other people he was communicating with into thinking they were speaking to someone else.
Further forensic analysis showed Doyle has a pattern of doing this over an extended period of time, including the day he was arrested, according to the release. He later confessed to detectives that he is attracted to minors, including 14-year-old girls.
Doyle was charged with 111 counts of possessing child pornography, criminal use of a communication facility and corruption of minors. The remaining charges were dismissed under the negotiated plea submitted by Assistant District Attorney Ryan Grace and defense counsel Michael Malloy.
“I made a mistake and I’m paying for the mistake I made,” Doyle told the court Thursday.
Doyle waived a 90-day assessment period for a mandatory state Sexual Offenders Assessment Board evaluation to determine whether he meets the criteria for a sexually violent predator. That assessment will still take place, however, and could require additional court hearings.
In addition to prison time, Doyle was ordered to undergo a psychosexual evaluation, provide a DNA sample to state police and forfeit the electronics seized. He will also serve three years of consecutive sex offender probation and must register as a sex offender for 15 years under Megan’s Law.
Doyle has been incarcerated since his arrest August 22, according to electronic court records. He is not eligible for early release.
