Aston OKs building expansion at Neumann University
ASTON » Commissioners approved a conditionaluse application submitted by Neumann University for the renovation and expansion of the Rocco Abessinio building on Neumann Drive.
The building is located in the institutional district and the township’s zoning code provides that colleges and universities may expand and renovate, but requires conditional use approval.
Engineer Gus Houtmann, representing Neumann University, said the 25,000 square-foot addition will be on the west side of building, which is located on a 29-acre site in between Concord and Convent roads.
Because the expansion will encroach on 4,000 square feet of steep slopes, associated conditional use was also required.
Township Engineer Joseph Viscuso said this approval is the first step. The proposal must pass the township planing commission, new construction committee, and will require review from the township engineer. The board of commissioners will then be presented with final approval.
In other matters, commissioners amended a resolution requiring the Delaware County Intermediate Unit to install 760 linear feet of curbing along the south edge of the existing cart-way of Crozerville Road between the new driveway and Spring Valley Way at a cost not to exceed $10,000. The DCIU shall include the curbing installation in the project bid package. Any cost over $10,000 will be paid by the township.
