Media grabs Intermedia­te EDCO series lead on Sides’ 3-run blast

Evan Sides belted a threerun homer and Jack Fletcher pitched six innings of threehit ball as the Media Mustangs defeated Aston Valley, 8-4, in Game 1 of the Intermedia­te EDCO championsh­ip series Sunday.

Justin Heidig, who doubled, and Daniel Esparragoz­a both had three hits for the Mustangs. Esparragoz­a came through with the goahead RBI in the fifth inning.

Jimmy Bauwens smoked an RBI double and Ryan Yeager had a hit and an RBI for Media.

Game 2 of the best-of-3 series is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Buggy Field in Aston.

Senior EDCO

Due to inclement weather, Game 1 of the championsh­ip series was suspended in the top of the sixth inning. The Marple Tigers are leading Briarcliff­e, 5-3.

The resumption of Game 1 is scheduled for 5:50 p.m. Monday at Briarcliff­e, with Game 2 to follow.

Little League 11s

Ridley Area Little League advanced to the Section 8 championsh­ip round Sunday with an 8-2 losersbrac­ket victory over Horsham.

Larry Rose pitched three solid innings to get the win. Jaxon Kehoe mashed a three-run homer, his third in the last two games. Austin Cannon launched a solo homer for his second in as many games. Connor Scanlan added two RBIs and Sean Williams went 2-for-2.

RALL will play Levittown Continenta­l at Middletown Little League Monday at 6 p.m. Ridley must win to force the if-necessary game Tuesday.

Delco League

Narberth put the finishing touches on a brilliant regular season with a 5-4, come-from-behind victory over Marple Newtown.

Joe Lake and Steve DeBarberie delivered backto-back home runs in the fifth inning to put the Mudcats ahead to stay. Brian Haley pitched six innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out four, to earn the win. Marty McKeone threw a scoreless seventh for the save.

Sean Spratt and Tommy Toal contribute­d two hits apiece for Narberth. ASTON VALLEY 8, CHESTER 1» Zach Rumford struck out five en route to the win. Max Carney paced the Knights with two hits and two RBIs, while Frank Nigro stroked an RBI double and scored two runs.

Top-seeded Narberth and No. 2 Aston Valley earned first-round byes in the Delco League playoffs, which get under way Tuesday. The semifinal round is slated to begin Saturday.

Delco MSBL

Ed Bahamonde hurled a complete game with five strikeouts to seal the Top Lumber Expos’ semifinal series sweep of the Delco Tigers.

Andrew Degaetano, Steve Smith, Anthony Monzo and Kevin Archer all had two hits and combined for six RBIs in an 8-5 victory in Game 2.

In the opener, Dan Cooper blasted a grand slam to pace a 15-4 win. Larry Greenwich Jr. smacked a two-run homer and Len Montano added two hits and two RBIs. Barry Blundin and Matt Papa shared the pitching duties.
