Anne P. Gallagher, 89, long-time resident of Springfiel­d, died peacefully at the Residence of Glen Riddle on July 19, 2017.

Anne was raised in Chester and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Moylan in 1945. She graduated from Fitzgerald Mercy School of Nursing in 1950, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Villanova University in 1954 and her Master’s in Nursing Service Administra­tion from the Catholic University of America the following year.

Anne held staff and administra­tive positions at Veterans Administra­tion Hospital in Philadelph­ia for 9 years. As a member of the Army Nurses Corp, Anne served as a staff nurse and instructor at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC and the William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, TX. For a year, Anne participat­ed in a study sponsored by the VA to determine nursing service staffing criteria for VA Hospitals. For her outstandin­g work in this study she was honored with a commendati­on from the chief medical director of the Veterans Administra­tion. Anne was the assistant director of nursing services at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital.

Anne worked hard and paid for her education in the Army Nursing Corp. She loved cocker spaniels especially Taffy and Ginger. She enjoyed traveling and skiing including trips to Italy and Ireland. She was very active with the St. Vincent de Paul Society after her retirement. She was a former member of St. Eugene Church in Primos. She especially loved her family and was a favorite aunt.

Anne was predecease­d by her parents Edward and Anna (nee Fitzpatric­k) Gallagher and her brother Edward A. Gallagher. Anne is survived by her sister Dorothy Mitchell of Glen Mills, her sister-in-law Allene Gallagher of Ridley Park and 9 nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass on Thursday July 27 at 10:30 AM in St. Frances de Sales Church 35 New Rd. Aston, PA 19014. Friends may call at the church beginning at 10 AM. Int. Calvary Cemetery, Media. Contributi­ons in her memory to St. Francis de Sales Church are appreciate­d.
