Ridley Area continues to flex its Little League muscles

-

Ridley Area Little League smashed home run after home run en route to winning the District 19 and Section 8 11U championships.

RALL needed that power stroke and a lot more to stay in the winners bracket portion of the state tournament Saturday in Bethlehem.

Michael Floirendo ripped a tie-breaking single as Ridley Area scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to 15-12.

The victory sends RALL into Monday’s winners bracket final against West Side Little League from West Chester. Game time is 6 p.m.

Ridley trailed, 10-3, after three innings, but scored four times with two outs in the fourth inning and added four more runs in the top of the fifth inning to take an 1110 beat Clarion, lead. Clarion jumped back in front on a two-run homer.

That’s when RALL flexed its muscles, and turned to its defense, to send the game into extra innings. Austin Cannon blasted a leadoff homer in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game. Ridley then turned a home-to-third double play to end the inning.

Floirendo broke the tie and Austin Cannon followed with an RBI single. RALL tacked on one more run to extend the lead to 15-12. Jaxon Kehoe set Clarion down in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory.

Cannon drove in four runs with three hits. Floirendo and Irv Fisher had three hits and three RBIs apiece. Kehoe (RBI) also had three hits, while Connor Scanlan ripped a two-run homer early in the game.
