SOUND OFF: CALL 484-521-3180 Severance tax doesn’t make sense

- You can Sound Off by calling 610-622-8888 or emailing newsroom@ delcotimes.com.

Natural gas is now a surplus commodity in the USA. So why would we now in Pennsylvania consider moving forward with the severance tax? It might have been something years ago. It would be like one corner gas station dropping their price by one cent and one across the corner raising prices by five cents. For more than 40 years, Pennsylvania did not want casinos. So for those 40 years people went to New Jersey and all the tax revenues went there. Other states are legalizing marijuana and taxing it; we’re letting criminals take that money. Let’s not make these same mistakes by imposing a severance tax now.

‘Step Up’ is clueless

“Step Up” is another typical clueless Republican, because of the fact that Republicans were in favor and were responsible for shipping good manufacturing jobs that paid well overseas. People had to take any job they can get, and sometimes people have to flip burgers. They should get paid decently for flipping burgers anyway, since they are multi-billion dollar corporations that they’re flipping burgers for. But being a clueless Republican, you can’t see that.

Thanks firefighters

Thank you to the Chester Fire Department who came to the rescue of my daughter last Monday night when she was stuck on Route 291. They managed to get her out of her car, put her in the fire truck and then put flares around her car so nobody would run into it. Thank you again.

Paying it forward

I like to thank the kind gentleman who assisted my elderly husband in Walmart on Tuesday, July 25. He was short a dollar and the man saw this and gave him the money, and I thought that was so wonderful. So thank you and God bless.

In need of a record player

To the caller asking about “Victory at Sea,” if I have the album and the music is beautiful. I only wish I had a 45 player to play it.

Dogs will be missed

I’ve been eating Johnny’s Dogs forever, since the ‘80s off of Edgemont Avenue. I wish the Conchester Store hadn’t closed this weekend; I wish they could have stayed open. I love their dogs, and I used to bring my classic car up there.

Thank the activists

I’d like to thank your environmental groups that shut down the Mariner East 2 drilling across Pa. I know safety first; I realize that because I’m a construction worker that works there. Now I’m going to struggle to put food on my table for the kids because of these activists who have nothing else better to do than shut things down. BUILDING TRADE MEMBER

Swaggart is selling goods

I don’t care to watch Jimmy Swaggart anymore. It’s too little preaching and too much asking for money and selling CDs and books and everything else they’ve got. There’s much singing on there and repeating the same songs. If wants people to forget about his transgressions in the 1980s this isn’t the way to do it.

What has Trump done?

I am very curious to those who have supported this president and are constantly commenting about what he’s accomplished: List what exactly what he’s done beside divide this country, lie in front of the American people and create a commission to investigate voter fraud that doesn’t exist. From what I can tell, he’s just wasting our time. Thank you.

Toomey can’t defend health care votes

I see from an article in the Times that Pat Toomey has time to talk taxes with local business leaders. But he has no time to defend his horrible health care bill with his constituents who are very upset about it. Of course, because Pat Toomey doesn’t want to have people asking tough questions; he wants nothing but soft balls.
