Crum Lynne American Legion corn boil set for Aug. 12
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » American Legion Post 777, 137 Walter St., Crum Lynne, hosts its annual Corn Boil from 1-5 p.m. Aug. 12.
All members, associates and friends are welcome to come out for a day of fun and food. Cost is $15 for adults, $10 for children 10-18, and free for children under 10. There is a 50/50, and all food cooked by Chef Louie. Stop by and support the post in its fundraising.
Chester community fair back Aug. 13
CHESTER » Keystone First and Better Living Center present the 12th annual Chester Community Fair and Book Bag Giveaway at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at BLC, 501 Yarnall St., Chester.
The fair and giveaway promote wellness with on-site health screenings and mental health support while also helping children in need prepare for the coming school year with new supplies, courtesy of event sponsors. Up to 1,000 book bags filled with school supplies will be donated. The community fair features health screenings provided by Keystone First with entertainment and information courtesy of local vendors.
“This is an excellent opportunity to reach our younger members, and help ensure they have all they need – academically and health-wise – to start the new school year off on the right foot,” said Joanne McFall, market president for Keystone First.
Drum Corps returns to Talen Energy Stadium
CHESTER » World Class marching pageantry returns to the home of the MLS Philadelphia Union when Youth Education in the Arts (YEA!) presents the Drum Corps International Tour of Champions on Thursday, Aug. 3, at Talen Energy Stadium.
The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and features some of the best marching ensembles in the activity as they share their dynamic and dazzling field programs under the lights. Featured in competition are: 10-time World Champion Cadets from Allentown; 2016 World Champions the Bluecoats of Canton, Ohio; Carolina Crown from Fort Mill, S.C.; The Cavaliers of Rosemont, Ill.; Phantom Regiment of Rockford, Ill.; the Crossmen from San Antonio, Texas (formerly of Delaware County); and the 2016 DCA World Champions Cadets2 of Allentown.

School Supply Drive drop off deadline is August 23
JENKINTOWN » The Breathing Room Foundation asks for the public’s help in its annual School Supply Drive.
The Breathing Room Foundation provides care and support for families affected by cancer, and hopes its Back to School Program provides a bit of “breathing room” to families by delivering personalized school supplies to their homes. The deadline for supplies is noon Aug. 23. Drop off donations at the BRF office at 600 W. Ave. Items may be purchased through an Amazon Wish List and shipped to the foundation; follow the Amazon Wish List link at www.breathingroomfoundation.org/back-to-school-program-2017
The foundation is collecting the following supplies: One-, three- and five-subject notebooks; composition notebooks; colored pencils; markers (washable and dry erase); crayons; highlighters; folders (character and solid colors); backpacks and lunch boxes (character, tweens and teens); pencil cases (pens, pencils, erasers); binders with dividers and looseleaf); rulers, protractors and compasses; lined index cards; ear buds; hand sanitizer; and gift cards (Target and Walmart).
