Memorable weekend for Springfield 12U team
This is a weekend Springfield Swim Club’s Luke Kennedy, Tristan Ronayne, Jake Kennedy and Ben Kutufaris won’t soon forget.
Saturday, the quartet broke Springfield’s 37-yearold pool record in the 12U freestyle relay in the Delco Swim League A Division championships.
They had so much fun erasing that record that the foursome decided to top Glenolden Swim Club’s 26-year-old pool mark in the Delco League Meet of Champions Sunday.
Kennedy, Ronayne, Kennedy and Kutufaris finished in 2 minutes, 6.03 seconds to break the mark of 2:06.41 set by Karakung in 1991. That earned the quartet Outstanding Relay honors.
Knowlton’s Madison Dickert was the only other record-setter. She won the 18U breaststroke in 35.44 seconds to break the record of 36.19 she set a year ago.
Ridley Township’s Alex Boeckx was named Male Swimmer of the Meet for the second straight year. He was first in the 18U individual medley, butterfly and breaststroke.
Rori Kennedy from Ridley Township earned Female Swimmer of the Meet honors. She was first in the 8U fly, breaststroke and freestyle.
Lansdowne’s Carter Branigan and Springfield’s Thomas Murphy were the other triple winners. Branigan won the boys 14U IM, fly and fly, and teamed with Logan DeConti, Edward Lyon and Donovan Hunt to win the free relay. Murphy took first in the boys 8U back, breast and teamed with Ryan McLaughlin, Katherine Shandley and Colin Christie to win the mixed free relay.
The top two finishers in each event qualified for Tuesday’s Elite Meet at Prospect Park Swim Club.
