Delco towns host National Night Out events tonight
The annual National Night Out will take place in municipalities across Delaware County Tuesday, Aug. 1.
On site in Springfield and Marple will be the Delaware County Heroin Task Force’s Mobile Drug Collection Unit, which will collect unused and expired prescription medication for disposal.
“Together we can strengthen the partnership between Springfield residents and the Police and send a message to criminals that Springfield is organized and will always be a great community to live work and play,” reads the event flier for Springfield.
Delaware County unveiled the drug takeback vehicle in late June, which officials said was the first of its kind in Pennsylvania.
Since 2013, the county has incinerated approximately 16,000 pounds of prescription drugs collected through drop-off boxes located at all municipal police departments and the county courthouse. The new collection van will provide another outlet to reach more people.

National Night Out locations in Delaware County:
Clifton Heights will give residents an opportunity to meet first responders and participate in food, games and music from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Clifton Heights Fire Co. at 20 W. Baltimore Ave.
Haverford police will host the event from 6-9 p.m. at the Quarry Center, 116 W. Township Line Road. Representatives police, fire and EMS will be on hand, a K-9 demonstration. and state Rep. Jamie Santora, R-163 of Upper Darby, will be serving water ice.
Lansdowne Police Department, Lansdowne Fire Co. and the Lansdowne Business and Professional Association will again partner to bring the National Night Out Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the North Highland Avenue parking lot, next to the Lansdowne Fire Co. It will feature a free community cookout with local guest chefs, kids activities and a live DJ. A special K9 demonstration will occur at 7 p.m.
Springfield will host at the Springfield County Club at 400 W. Sprout Road. The pool will be open that night to members only.
Upland will host at the police department from 6:30-8:30 p.m. where visits will meet police officers and to see equipment and vehicles on display.
Upper Darby Mayor Thomas Micozzie will host the National Night Out at Upper Darby High School started at 6 p.m. Tuesday with a program that includes the Summer Stage Shooting Stars, Lansdowne YMCA Kid’s Zone, Zumba, a soccer game scrimmage, vendors, giveaways, craftwork from the summer playgrounds and recognition of the township’s police, fire and EMT.
