Intruder breaks into occupied Collingdal­e home

COLLINGDAL­E » Police are investigat­ing an attempted break-in Wednesday morning at an occupied residence in the 200 block of Felton Avenue.

It was about 11 a.m. when police were dispatched to the scene for a burglary that had just occurred. Arriving officers were met by one of the occupants, as well as a neighbor who stated a man had just broken into the house on the Andrews Avenue side of the property.

One of the two occupants said he had just returned home when the power went out. He went downstairs to check the electric circuit breakers and when he returned upstairs, he heard the sound of glass breaking downstairs.

“As he walked down the stairs next to the Andrews Avenue door, he confronted a light-skinned Hispanic or black male inside his residence,” states a release issued by Police Chief Robert Adams.

After being confronted, the intruder ran out of the house down Andrews, toward Lincoln Avenue.

The intruder was described as about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds, with a thin black mustache and wearing a white hat, white T-shirt, white gloves and black pants. He was carrying a black book bag.

In the intruder’s hand was a according to the release.

Video footage obtained by police shows a man opening the side gate to the property and walking to the side door — but then goes blank. Police subsequent­ly found the PECO meter pulled from the socket and sitting on the ground.

Police have released the video, as well as a composite drawing of a suspect. Anyone with informatio­n is asked to contact Collingdal­e police at 610-5860502 or 911.
