Mrs. Rose M. Rohr (nee Sortino)

Mrs. Rose M. Rohr (nee Sortino), age 83, an educator, died on July 28, 2017 at Granite Farms Estates in Media, PA.

Born in New York, N.Y., she was a graduate of Julia Richman High School and Hunter College. Before moving to Media seven years ago, Mrs. Rohr resided in Springfiel­d (Del. Co.) PA for 50 years.

Following graduation, Mrs. Rohr became a teacher at the Belmont Elementary School in Belmont, N.Y. After marrying, she was a substitute school teacher for the Springfiel­d School District and held several positions, including ones at the Valley Forge Military Academy Junior College and Haverford College. She ended her teaching career at the Covenant United Methodist Church Nursery School.

Mrs. Rohr was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church and the church’s choir. She was also an active member of the AAUW (American Associatio­n of University Women). She enjoyed cooking, Italian opera, writing to family and friends, her pet dog Romulus, and being in the country, especially the Poconos. She was devoted to her family.

Mrs. Rohr is survived by her son, Carl S. Rohr; two daughters, Caroline (Carrie) Rohr Martinek and Elizabeth A. Rohr; and three grandchild­ren, Christophe­r Rohr Urffer, Nicholas Rohr Urffer and James Peter Martinek. She was predecease­d by her husband, Carl A. Rohr, in 2002.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mrs. Rohr’s visitation after 9 a.m. Saturday, August 5 in the Covenant United Methodist Church, 212 W. Springfiel­d Rd., Springfiel­d, PA, 19064, until the time of her funeral service at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will be at noon Monday, August 7 in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, N.Y.
