Brookhaven releases video of hit-and-run vehicle
BROOKHAVEN » Police have released images of the 2009 Dodge Charger they believe was involved in a robbery, theft hit-and-run Wednesday afternoon.
The driver wanted in the crime is described as a white male in his 30s with a chubby face and possibly blonde hair.
Around 3 p.m. Wednesday a landscaper caught the suspected attempting to drive off with a stolen backpack leaf blower from the landscaping crew’s truck on the 4900 block of Jackson Drive in Brookhaven.
Police said it was the slamming of the steel door on the landscaping crew’s truck that caught the victim’s attention. He saw the suspect placing the leaf blower into a gray Dodge Avenger.
“The guy drove down the street once and scoped it out,” said Detective Jeff Habick of the Brookhaven Police Department. “He goes down the block and comes back.”
In an attempt to stop the theft, the 23-yearold landscaper stepped in front of the Avenger and waved his hands for the driver to stop, but that’s when the driver accelerated and struck the landscaper, causing him to land on the hood of the vehicle.
The man clung onto the hood for 100 feet before the driver slammed on the brakes, sending the victim flying into the road, smacking his head into the ground with such force that it opened a large laceration.
The video of the automobile was made available by a resident who captured the driver leaving the scene on a home surveillance system.
Police are now looking to the public for help identifying the driver.
Habick said the man suffered a concussion and received six staples to close the wound, but was discharged from Crozer-Chester Medical Center on Friday.
The driver in question is sought on charges of robbery and theft, both felonies, and could potentially face charges of aggravated assault and assault by motor vehicle.
