-

Irene C. Smolcynski (nee Wolfe) of Glen Mills, PA, formerly from Upper Providence, PA passed away to eternal peace on August 2, 2017 after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Irene is predeceased by her parents Thomas, Jr. and Helen Wolfe, a sister Jeanette Murray, and a brother Thomas Wolfe, III.

Irene was born in Philadelphia on June 11, 1934. She graduated from West Catholic Girls High School in 1951. She then continued her education at Philadelphia School of Radiological Technicians to become an X-ray Technician where she worked at various hospitals until starting her family.

Irene was married on May 21, 1955 to her beloved husband of 62 years, Andrew M. Smolcynski, Jr. and they had five children, eleven grandchildren, one step-grandchild, one great-grandchild and one step-great-grandchild.

After raising her family Irene returned to work in the medical field employed by various doctors and medical offices. Irene was a member of the St. Mary Magdalene Senior Group and Silver Sneakers.

Irene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, friend and neighbor. Irene most importantly loved her family and took great pleasure in the time she spent with them, whether hosting the many family gatherings or attending the countless activities and accomplishments that her family members were involved with. Irene especially loved to listen to music, read, travel, shop, watch old movies, Seinfeld, The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and so much more, always remaining active in life. Irene volunteered at church and various organizations, including the Adoration Chapel at St. Cornelius Church and as a Hospice Volunteer several years ago after her first battle with cancer. It gave her a humble sense of peace to know that she could spend time comforting someone in their time of need.

Irene was deeply loved by her family, friends, neighbors, care givers and even acquaintances because of her kind, caring, generous nature, and will be profoundly missed by all who knew her, especially her family. Even in her final months her worry for those she loved and would leave behind weighed more heavily on her heart than the suffering she endured.

Irene is survived by a large loving family, beginning with her beloved husband, Andrew M. Smolcynski, Jr., five children Jeanette (Francis) Marabella, Andrew M., III (Patricia) Smolcynski, Alyce (William) Kirkpatrick, Helene (Christopher) Cocchi, and Philip (Kelly) Smolcynski, eleven grandchildren, Brandon (Ashlyn) and Evan Marabella, Amanda, Erica and Andrew M., IV Smolcynski, William and Allyson Kirkpatrick, Cristina and Ceiran Cocchi, and Bridget and Sean Smolcynski, one great-grandson, Landon Marabella, one stepgrandson Chad Perry, one step-great-grandson Chad Perry, Jr, a brother Francis (Arlene) Wolfe, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, greatnephews, family and friends.
