Haverford concert series continues Aug. 23

HAVERFORD » The third annual Haverford Concert in the Park Summer Series takes place on Wednesdays in different parks around the township. Snacks are available for sale at park concession stands. Guests should bring their own chairs or blankets.

Upcoming concerts for the 2017 summer series are:

• Aug. 23: The Big Jangle (a tribute to Tom Petty) with Grateful Rob — Westgate Hills Pavilion, 1614 Rose Tree Lane, Havertown. Hosted by the Westgate Hills Civic Associatio­n

• Aug. 30: Alfred James Band with Avalare Strings — Merwood Park, Wynnefield Lane and Cherry Lane, Havertown. Hosted by the Merwood Civic Associatio­n.

The Haverford Concert In The Park Summer Series is produced by Kelly Music for Life, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to improving lives and communitie­s through music. Bonner HOF nomination­s open

The Bonner Hall of Fame (HOF) Committee is requesting nomination­s for induction into the Monsignor Bonner HOF’s 2018 Class. Please submit nomination­s for the HOF (graduates) and the Monsignor Bonner Medal (nongraduat­es) by Nov. 1. The Gala Awards Dinner is held at the Drexelbroo­k Center on Saturday evening, Oct. 27, 2018.

Hall of Fame eligibilit­y criteria are:

• All graduates of Monsignor Bonner High School are eligible for election to the Monsignor Bonner HOF 10 years after graduation.

• In order to be considered, the individual should have made a significan­t contributi­on to the school, community and/or society in general in areas as diverse as the arts, business, coaching, education, government, law, medicine, military, politics, religion, science, sports and/or other endeavors.

• HOF Committee members are not eligible while on the HOF Committee.

• Nomination­s do not carry forward from year to year. If a previous nominee who was not elected, they must be resubmitte­d before this year’s deadline.

Monsignor Bonner Medal eligibilit­y criterion is any non-graduate of Monsignor Bonner, including faculty, parents, and friends of Bonner, who contribute­d to the betterment of Monsignor Bonner and its students.

Mark calendars for flower show

EAST MARLBOROUG­H » Five local garden clubs, members of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvan­ia, present a N.G.C. Standard Flower Show titled “Magical Garden” at Longwood Gardens Sept. 23-24. The event is opened 1-6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

The clubs planning the show include Four Seasons Garden Club of Kennett Square, Garden Class of the Woman’s Community Club of Uwchlan, Garden Club of Springfiel­d, Spade and Trowel Club and The Country Gardeners.

The show is staged in the Ballroom at Longwood Gardens. Classes include design, horticultu­re, artistic crafts and a youth division. All gardeners and floral arrangers are invited to exhibit in the show. It is not necessary to be a member of a garden club to enter. Class entries are limited and should follow the rules in the Handbook for Flower Shows. School retirees hold brunch

UPPER CHICHESTER » B.O.Y.S. (Beyond Our Years of Service) holds its third annual Reunion Brunch from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Austin Room, 3405 Meetinghou­se Road, Boothwyn. The brunch honors two retirees from Chester Upland School District: Mr. Toney Lucas, former administra­tor of Douglass Junior High School and Showalter Middle School; and in memoriam of Mr. Willie DeJarnette, former administra­tor of Columbus Elementary School and former director of the George E. Get pharm cert through CAADC

Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc.’s (CAADC) Pharmacy Technician Training Program is now accepting applicatio­ns from eligible youth. This program is designed to help out-of-school youth gain the skills needed for a rewarding career including obtaining required certificat­ion.

CAADC has partnered with Delaware County Community College for its Pharmacy Technician Training Program which will provide instructio­n to become a pharmacy technician leading to employment in hospitals and community pharmacies. This program includes Pharmacy Technician Certificat­ion and an externship (paid work experience).

There are a limited number of available slots though and applicants must meet the following requiremen­ts: Be between the ages of 17 and 24; currently reside in Delaware County; have a high school diploma or equivalent; ready to jump start a new career.
