Richard (Rick) Stanko, Esquire, of Wallingfor­d, passed away on August 4th after an 8-year battle with renal cell carcinoma.

Rick was raised in Lansford, PA, the second son of the late John E. Stanko, Jr. and Nora Stanko. He graduated from Panther Valley High School in 1972, and later from LaSalle College in 1976 with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He then went to Dickinson School of Law, receiving his Doctor of Jurisprude­nce in 1979.

Rick started his law career as an associate at the Harrisburg firm of Meyers and Desfor. In 1982, he moved to Delaware County and took a position with what was then known as Kassab, Cherry, and Archbold. In 1989 he became a partner in the firm of Kassab, Archbold and O’Brien. In 2006, he started a solo practice, and then became Of Counsel to Schrom and Shaeffer. Later, he held the same position with the Norristown firm of Solomon Berschler, before ultimately taking a position in Milford, PA with the Law Office of Charles Kannebecke­r. He retired on disability in 2014.

Prior to retirement, Rick was a member of the Delaware County and Pennsylvan­ia Bar Associatio­ns, and the Pennsylvan­ia and American Trial Lawyers Associatio­ns.

Rick was active in the Nether Providence Township Republican Party, having served as a committeem­an, Judge of elections, member of the zoning hearing board, and Township commission­er. Rick was also active in St. John Chrysostom parish, having served as a lector, extraordin­ary minister, basketball coach, member of the parish CYO board, and the Ministry with Persons with Disabiliti­es.

He was predecease­d by his wife of 33 years, Mary Regina Kershaw. He is survived by his children, Timothy, Patrick, Peter, and Bernadette; daughter-inlaw, Adina; Mother, Nora Stanko; brothers, John Stanko, Jr. (Louise) and David Stanko (Theresa); mother-in-law, Nancy Kershaw; sister-in-law, Carol Kershaw (William Webster); brothers-in-law, Justin Kershaw III (Joan) and Terrence; many nieces and nephews.

His viewing will be held on Thursday, August 10th, from 7-9 pm at the Carr Funeral Home, 935 S. Providence Rd. (Rte. 320), Wallingfor­d, PA. Friends and family are again invited to call on Friday morning from 10-10:45am at St. John Chrysostom Church, 617 S. Providence Rd., Wallingfor­d, PA. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11am. Interment in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Catholic Charities or the St. John Chrysostom St. Vincent de Paul Society.
