Margaret Rose Borio

-

Margaret Rose Borio, 94, died on August 8, 2017, at her home in Swarthmore, PA, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Marge was one of the seven children of her Irish parents, James and Bridget (Mitchell) Sweeney. The Sweeney family immigrated to America in 1927 and lived in South Philadelphia. Marge graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School in 1940. In 1948, she married Edward P. Borio, Jr., who died in 1988.

In 1957 Marge and Ed moved to Swarthmore where they raised their family. They were founding members of Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish. A devout Catholic, Marge was a member of the church’s Sodality, Our Lady Seniors, and the Golden Age Club. In the 1970s and 1980s, Marge was an employee of the Cake Box, a popular Swarthmore bakery.

Marge was a devoted mother of five, grandmother of twelve, and great grandmother of six. She was always eager to help whenever help was needed and even happier to join a party to celebrate happy occasions with family and friends. She loved to dance – even in her 90’s she could be found of the dance floor – and she never turned down an invitation to visit her family.
