Chester cops exchange gunshots with suspects
CHESTER » Several people were injured early Sunday when an argument erupted in gunfire - including shots fired at police officers - outside a city bar, officials said.
No officers were injured in the incident.
Officers responded to a report of an argument outside the Gold Room Bar in the 500 block of Edgemont Avenue about 2:40 a.m. Sunday.
Police say one of the men then pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting the other man.
Police arriving on the scene say the suspects then got into a Dodge Durango and started firing at officers. Police returned fire, hitting the vehicle several times.
The suspects then fled the scene, with police in pursuit. They crashed at Eighth Street and Concord Avenue.
Both men in the vehicle were suffering from gunshot wounds. All three victims, including the man shot outside the bar, were transported on CrozerChester Medical Center.
Their conditions are not yet known.
In a prepared release, Chester Police Chief James Nolan also indicated a fourth person was wounded in the melee, a 27-year-old female who was located in the 500 block of Edgemont Avenue with superficial wounds to the neck. She was treated and released at CCMC. .
A large police presence from the surrounding area arrived on the scene, including officers from Nether Providence.
Due to the fact that Chester officers discharged their weapons, an investigation is being conducted by the Office of the District Attorney of Delaware County, according to Chubb.
