Tongue N Groove closes out Hook concert series Tuesday
MARCUS HOOK » The Marcus Hook Summer Festival celebrates the conclusion of its 31st year when Tongue N Groove return by popular demand to close out the 2017 concert series at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Come out to hear 1970s and ‘80s rock on the banks of the Delaware River at Market Square Memorial Park, Market Street and Delaware Avenue.
Light refreshments are available for purchase. No alcohol for pets are permitted.
New programs at Friendship Circle
YEADON » Senior Community Services’ Friendship Circle, located on the campus of Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in St. Bernard’s Hall, announces two new exercise classes with instructor Chilio Ponton.
The Friday classes begin Aug. 18, with strength and stretch at 9:30 a.m. and cardio at 10:30 a.m. Cost per class is $2 for members, $3 for nonmembers. Cost for both classes is $3 for members, $4 for nonmembers. Members get free first class is they bring a friend.
The center holds an “Introduction to Smart Phones, Tablets and other Technologies for Older Adults” class 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16 and Thursday, Aug. 24. Join Jennell Williams, owner of “Senior Lift,” an organization dedicated to empowering older adults to embrace technology, to understand smart phones, tablets, and other technology.
Guests are encouraged to bring their devices. Cost is $30 for members, $40 for nonmembers.

Ridley School Board meeting change
or RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » The Aug. 7 meeting of the Ridley School Board has been moved to Aug. 28. Traditionally, the regular school board meetings are held the first Monday of each month. But in accordance with a practice that began many years ago, the board will not meet on Sept. 4, Labor Day, but skips the meeting for September. The next scheduled meeting after that will be Oct. 2.
PAW Patrol comes alive in Eddystone, Montco
The 2017 PAW Patrol Roll Patrol Road Tour comes to the area Friday, Aug. 18-Sunday, Aug. 20, with a one-day stop in Delaware County and two days in Montgomery County. The Delco stop is on Friday at the Eddystone Walmart, 1570 Chester Pike, from 3-7 p.m. The tour continues on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Walmart at 275 N. Gulph Road, King of Prussia.
Kids can explore the inside of the life-size PAW Patroller and meet their favorite PAW Patrol characters, as well as reenact their own rescue missions through an interactive play experience featuring the new Sea Patrol theme. Families can celebrate the experience with a memorable photo and limited edition giveaways.
The life-size activation will also have a dedicated area showcasing tour producer Spin Master Entertainment’s newest entertainment property, Rusty Rivets. Kids can combine, design and “rustify” inside Rusty’s life-size Rivet Lab and meet the heroes from the show, Rusty and Ruby. Alongside Rusty Rivets, kids can play with the squeezable sand you can’t put down, Kinetic Sand, and experience soaking surprises with Soggy Doggy, Spin Master’s newest launch in the games category.

Visit Chadds Ford Days Sept. 9-10
CHADDS FORD » The Chadds Ford Historical Society hosts the 52nd annual Chadds Ford Days festival Sept. 9-10. Don’t miss out on joining the community for this family- and dog-friendly event that commemorates the Battle of the Brandywine which took place on Sept. 11, 1777. Come relive history with your family and friends right here in Chadds Ford on Saturday, Sept. 9, and Sunday, Sept. 10. The event runs from 10 a.m.–7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on Sunday.
Chadds Ford Days includes over 50 artisans and demonstrators, including a “Maker’s Marketplace” with handmade items for sale, colonial demonstrator stations showing crafts like blacksmithing, lacemaking or woodturning, and colonial dancing and courtship. Reenactors bring General George Washington and Revolutionary War soldier Ned Hector to life, along with a tour of an 18th century military camp with cannons firing, muskets shooting and soldiers on maneuvers.
Along with its history, the festival celebrates contemporary Chadds Ford, with the area’s artistic legacy on display with the Philadelphia Watercolor Society’s free art show and sale and painting demonstrations from artists. Guests can visit the society’s Visitors Center for the museum store and see the current exhibit, “Wanton Waste: Chadds Ford and the Battle of Brandywine.”
Seven local bands provide continuous live music throughout the festival, including The Sermon, the Steve Liberace Band, Seven Rings and Marlboro Road playing jazz, rock, Irish, bluegrass, traditional and children’s songs.
Food is available for sale from local restaurants and a tavern beer garden features beers and wine from Victory Brewing and Chadds Ford Winery. Along with purchasing food from contemporary vendors, guests can see colonial cooking demonstrations in the c. 1725 Chads House. New for 2017 is all food and beverage transactions are made directly with the vendors instead of using pre-purchased tickets.
There is a “Kid’s Corner” with a activities and games, and dog training demonstrations providing by Clover Dog Training.
Chadds Ford Days is held on the grounds of Chadds Ford Historical Society, 1736 N. Creek Road. Free parking is available adjacent to the festival grounds. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to attend, but must be on a leash. Admission is $10 for adults 18 and older and free for children 17 and under. CFHS members are free with membership card.
