Following membership in the PA Military Training Corp, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as an aerial gunner on a B-24 in the 5th Bomber Squad of the 13th Air Force, in the Pacific Theatre, U.S. Army. He completed forty three missions in the South Pacific.
