Shows look to the stars; remember Whitney Houston, Diana

Ozark: (Available on Netflix) The dark thriller follows financial planner Marty (Jason Bateman) and his wife (Laura Linney) who suddenly relocate their family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks after his partner double-crosses a Mexican drug lord in a money-laundering scheme. The cartel kingpin puts him on the clock to make good on a new plan, but the locals prove as surprising as the show, which in its own way offers an oddly relevant portrait of America. Earlier in the week, the series got a quick renewal for a second season.

The Last Ship: (9 p.m. Sunday on TNT) In its fourth season, the Navy destroyer continues on its mission to find a cure after a global pandemic has wiped out 80 percent of the planet’s population.

Episodes: (10 p.m. Sunday on Showtime) Entering Season 5, TV writers Sean (Stephen Mangan) and Beverly (Tamsin Greig) have experience­d the worst of Hollywood but are still standing along with the vapid star of their show (Matt LeBlanc).

Survivor’s Remorse: (10 p.m. Sunday on Starz) The fourth season of the comedy opens with both Calloway siblings — Cameron and M-Chuck — searching for the truth (and closure) behind their respective fathers.

Great American Eclipse: (8 a.m. Monday on the Science Channel) They will be live in Madras, Oregon — one of the nation’s premier viewing spots — with astronomer­s and educators and also provide live footage from other prime viewing destinatio­ns across Americainc­ludingTenn­essee, Idaho, Nebraska and South Carolina. You’ll also get glimpses of the eclipse taken from the Internatio­nal Space Station. A recap begins at 9 p.m.

NOVA — Eclipse Over America: (8 p.m. Monday on PBS) The series investigat­es the storied history of solar eclipse science and joins both seasoned and citizen-scientists alike as they don their eclipse glasses and tune their telescopes for the eclipse.

Diana — Her Story: (8 p.m. Tuesday on PBS) Twenty years after Princess Diana’s death, a new film reveals her story in her own words.

The Planets: (10 p.m. Tuesday on the Science Channel) Eight hour-long episodes that will take an in-depth look at Venus, Mars, the possibilit­y of a mysterious Planet 9, exoplanets and more.

30 for 30 — What Carter Lost: (6:30 p.m.Thursday on ESPN) The saga of the 1988 Dallas Carter Cowboys who had 21 players who were offered college scholarshi­ps and several who went on to the NFL, but self-destructed.

Death Note: (Available Friday on Netflix) This Adam Wingard-directed film is a live-action, English-language take on the popular Japanese manga series about a high-schooler who obtains a book that gives him the power to kill anyone, with the action relocated to Seattle.

Disjointed: (Available Friday on Netflix) The latest sitcom from Chuck Lorre (co-created by former “Daily Show” writer David Javerbaum) stars Kathy Bates as the owner of a Los Angeles cannabis dispensary.

Great Performanc­es — La Traviata: (9 p.m. Friday on PBS) Sonya Yoncheva reprises her widely praised interpreta­tion of the heroine Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s opera.

The Tick: (Available Friday on Amazon) The live-action comedy series based on the cult comics of the same name stars Peter Serafinowi­cz (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) as the blue-suited hero. Ben Edlund, who created the comics and the previous series, is also the creator and a producer of the Amazon series, joined by fellow producer Barry Sonnenfeld and director Wally Pfister (best known as Christophe­r Nolan’s longtime cinematogr­apher).

Whitney — Can I Be Me: (9 p.m. Friday on Showtime) Documentar­y from directors Nick Broomfield and Rudi Dolezal weaves never-before-seen video, candid interviews and behind-the-scenes performanc­e footage into a portrait of Whitney Houston, who died suddenly at age 48 after years of struggling with drug addiction.
