New administrators named in Interboro
PROSPECT PARK » The Interboro School District will be starting the 2017-18 school year with some familiar faces in new administrative roles.
Brad Kohlhepp was approved by the school board on Aug. 16 to be the new principal of the district’s Kindergarten Academy, a position previously held by Nancy DeSanctis, who recently announced her retirement. Kohlhepp was the assistant principal of Glenolden School for six years under then-principal Rachel Lambert, who was promoted to district supervisor of special education last month.
“Since I started at Interboro the Kindergarten Academy has always been a place where I saw myself at some point in my career,” said Kohlhepp recently. “My passion has always been elementary education and as the flagship for the district, you are able to influence every student who enters as a young Buc.”
Kohlhepp has earned degrees from the universities of Delaware and Pennsylvania and is presently a doctoral candidate in educational leadership at Immaculata University. Kohlhepp said 10 years of experience as an administrator – he was a principal in a parochial school before coming to Interboro – has helped him grow in a principal’s position and that he looks forward to working with all communities the district represents.
“I am looking forward to seeing our students develop in a child-centered environment where their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual capacities will grow. Every child who walks through the doors of the Kindergarten Academy is entering a loving environment where we will meet the child where he or she is developmentally and by the time they leave in June significant academic and social growth will be made,” he said.
School board Director Justin Shivone gave high compliments to Kohlhepp on his promotion.
“Our kindergarten kids socially, emotionally and academically are going to be so successful at the Kindergarten Academy because of Mr. Kohlhepp,” Shivone said. “He is an outstanding assistant principal and we are looking forward to him at the Kindergarten Academy.”
Kohlhepp starts his new position on Sept. 11 with a starting annual salary of $100,000. DeSanctis will retain her position as the academy principal through her retirement date of Sept. 15.
Even after being bumped up to a district administrator position, Lambert will continue to serve as Glenolden’s principal on an interim basis for the start of the school year. Glenolden will thus start the school year without a permanent administrator.
Interviews are slated for candidates to fill the principal position at Glenolden with a job posting to fill the assistant principal position expected soon.
Classes for the Interboro School District start on Sept. 5.
