WCU welcomes class of 2021

WEST CHESTER » Summer in the borough is over as West Chester University welcomed the Class of 2021 on campus Friday. More than 2,300 freshmen moved into dorms with help from their families and 540 upper class volunteers.

”We use the pit stop method,” said Mike Selby, director of operations for University Student Housing, which runs the large housing dorms on Rosedale and New Streets, which accounts 55 % of the school population. “”We get people in and unloaded quickly as possible.”

Families arrived in D lot then drive to their respective dorms and unload. Parents then park and help the students set up their dorms, Selby said.

“It’s been smooth,” he said. “It can be a very emotional day. We want it to be as stress free as possible.”

The University expects fall 2017 enrollment to exceed 2016, which 17,005 students

“It was a beautiful day and everything went very well,” said Nancy Gainer, Executive Director of the Office of Communicat­ions. “Move-in day is one of our favorite days of the year. There are so many smiles, hugs, warm wishes, and totaled tears of joy! going to be for all.”

“Move-in day is one of my favorite parts of school,” resident assistant, Kristin Erle told incoming freshman, Madison Bosack who admitted to being a little nervous.

Parents Donna Rounsavill­e We know it’s a great year of Flemington N.J. had a different kind of excitement,”We’re officially empty nesters,” she said after dropping her son Joseph off for school. “We’re going to have an empty nest party tonight.”
