SWARTHMORE » What do Tony-nominee Josh Young, award-winning musical theatre composers Kerrigan and Lowdermilk, “Forbidden Broadway” star Marcus Stevens, and Broadway actresses Carey Brown and Anna Eilinsfeld have in common? They all grew up studying theatre at Young People’s Theatre Workshop in Swarthmore.

YPTW has produced many theatre professionals—from actors to directors to playwrights. However, the vast majority of YPTW students have come to YPTW to build life skills invaluable in today’s digital age. These include the ability to communicate with others, express oneself in front of a group, collaborate Young People’s Theatre Workshop in Swarthmore.

creatively, and to improvise and react to new situations.

YPTW is entering its 40th year of teaching young people the theatre arts. It opened its doors in 1978 with the goal of teaching the whole child in a safe and nurturing atmosphere. This goal remains the same today. YPTW will commemorate that event with a major production of the musical “Hello, Dolly!” in June 2018.

In order for students to participate in the spring musical, they must enroll in a class during the school year. The first set of classes begin on Sept. 9 and run for eight weeks. This will be a special year to celebrate YPTW’s birthday.

Be a part of it. Join the YPTW family and take the stage with this treasured educational institution.
