Bonner & Prendie stays hot with win over Wood

If this week’s matches are any indication, the future is bright for the Bonner & Prendergas­t golf team.

The young Friars recorded their second Catholic League win of the week Wednesday with a 255-259 decision over Archbishop Wood at par 35 Five Ponds Golf Club.

Leading the way was Hayden Smith with a 37. Rob Dougherty (39) and Dylan Williams (39) also had impressive rounds for Bonner (3-4, 2-1 Catholic League).

In the Central League: CONESTOGA 197, STRATH HAVEN 211, SPRINGFIEL­D 246 » Strath Haven’s Kevin Smith led all players with a low round of 35 at Springhave­n. Ben Newlon and Nick Cardow both tallied 42s, while David Merz chipped in with a 43 for the Panthers.

Reed Curtis paced the Cougars with a 45.

Samantha Yao (five pars) and Kemp Bassett (six pars) each produced a low round of 38 for the winning Pioneers.

In nonleague action: HAVERFORD2­08,CARDINALO’HARA 231 » The Fords won their sixth straight match to begin the fall campaign.

Emmett Fox and Andrew Damico carded 4-over par 39s to help the Fords defeat the Lions at Merion Golf Club’s West Course. Damico’s round was a career low.

Riley Quarterman­n birdied the first hole on the way to a 42 and Holden Ungvary, who birdied the 117-yard par-3 sixth, shot a season-low 43 for the Fords.

Joseph Taggart carded a 43 while Luke Savage and Ryan Calderaro each added a 46 for O’Hara (3-3). GARNET VALLEY 241, GLEN MILLS 284 » GV sophomore Jake Sokalsky birdied the first and seventh holes to claim medalist honors with a 39 at the Golf Course at Glen Mills (par 36). Sean Kelly finished 12-over for the Jags.

Justice Orfield recorded a 48 to lead the Bulls.

Girls Tennis

Annamarie Degnan, Caroline Lynch and Jessica Dougherty were in control from the outset in their singles matches, helping Cardinal O’Hara remain undefeated with a 5-0 Catholic League decision over Bonner & Prendergas­t.

The Lions (3-0) cruised in their doubles matches. No. 1 Kenzie Gardler and Mary Clare Hayden were successful 6-0, 6-1, and Lauren Logue and Katherine Toal prevailed 6-1, 6-0.

In nonleague matches: HAVERFORD 7, ACADEMY PARK 0 » Lia Robben continued her great season for the Fords. The junior earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles, spurring the Fords to their second team win of the year.

Chloe Arias and Emma Burhop also won in straight sets for Haverford.

The doubles tandems of Christina O’Halloran and Charlotte Hamburg, and Zoe Bozman and Georgette Avrigian, won their matches without allowing a single point (6-0, 6-0). AGNES IRWIN 4, HARRITON 3 » Agnes Irwin survived a difficult test in singles play by sweeping the doubles competitio­n.

Ruthie Njagi, Carol Li and Camilla Gowen fought hard, but couldn’t come up solve the Rams’ Shaina Ginsberg, Mackenzie Sherman and Erica Lutz.

The Owls’ doubles pairings of Lexi Short and Kayla Neary, Natalie Corkran and Cate Costin, Sophie Tass and Cami Aronsky, and Kylie Nolan and Peyton Webber all went home victorious. CHICHESTER 3, SUN VALLEY 2 » Alexa Jung and Jordan Bondrowski and Faith Sanar and Hailey Foreacke netted crucial doubles wins for the Eagles, who dropped two of three singles matches with the Vanguards. No. 1 Gongbah Massaquoi triumphed in the No. 2 match..

Desiree Maugle and Brittany Murdock won in straight sets at first and third singles, respective­ly, for Sun Valley.

Boys Soccer

The Haverford School rallied from a two-goal deficit to pick up a 2-2 tie against Loyola Blakefield in the second day of the Main Line Invitation­al.

Nick Pippis scored in the 70th minute and Mike Pilkington registered the equalizer for the Fords in the 75th. Will Baltrus made four saves in net for Haverford (0-1-1).
