Nominate vets for commendation

SPRINGFIELD » U.S. Rep. Patrick Meehan, R-7 of Chadds Ford, announces that the 7th Congressional District is looking to honor local veterans with the Congressional Veteran Commendation. The CVC is a nominations-based program designed to recognize the wartime sacrifices and peacetime community involvement of residents of the 7th District of Pennsylvania.

The public is invited to submit nomination applications for veterans that they believe have made significant community contributions to the 7th District. Honorees are chosen by a board of veterans who represent each county throughout the district. The program intends to emphasize what veterans did when they returned home and how they made a difference in their community.

“The CVC program is an opportunity to honor veterans who have returned home from active duty and continued to serve their community as volunteers, coaches, activists, and leaders,” said Congressman Meehan. “This award will recognize heroes in the 7th District who have made notable contributions to make their community a better place to live. I am honored to be able to bestow this recognition on a group of veterans and look forward to honoring our nominees.” Eligibility: • Veteran must currently reside in the 7th District. To verify the veteran’s district, visit www.house.gov to enter their zip code and address.

• Nominee must have served on active duty during wartime in the United States Armed Forces, or was activated from the National Guard/Reserves for purposes other than training.

• Veteran is retired from the Armed Forces or was honorably discharged.

• This award is for living veterans, and will not be awarded posthumously.

The nomination application is now open and can be found at here. All applications are due by September 11, 2017.

The 2017 CVC honorees will be announced and recognized by Congressman Meehan at a special ceremony in November.
