Episcopal Academy did not allow a shot on goal in the second half as the Churchwome­n opened the field hockey season with a 1-0 nonleague victory over Central Bucks South Friday.

Gianna Pantaleo scored to give EA a 1-0 lead at halftime. Goalie Caroline Kelly made seven saves to keep C.B. South off the board. The defense took care of the rest as Bridget Boyle did not have to make a save in the second half. PENNCREST 7, CHICHESTER 1 » Margaret Howe-Consgilio paced a high-powered attack with two goals. Bella Sabato, Emerson Smith, Calle Bates, Sadie King and Katie Kline also scored for the Lions. Goalie Audrey Bassett made two saves. SPRINGFIEL­D 7, ACADEMY PARK 0 » Jess Miller paced a balanced attach with two goals. Michaela Travers, Diana Mirigliano, Shannon Gallagher, Alana DiRenzo and Sarah Lofland also scored for the Cougars. GARNET VALLEY 4, INTERBORO 1 » Lilly and Maddy Bonner led a strong defense in front of goalie Sophia Harley (10 sves). Tina Rawa (two goals) and Ciava Burke (goal, assist) powered the offense. Jenna Schreiber scored for Interboro off assists from Ro Murphy and Marissa Mullen. GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 5, CARDINAL O’HARA 1 » Anna DiRita got the Lions on the board with a goal in the second half. Goalie Marie Noon came up big with 20 saves. MERION MERCY 3, HAVERFORD 1 » Senior forward Maggie Murphy put home a rebound to tie the game for the Fords, but Sara Ewing scored with 22 seconds left in the first half to put the Golden Bears ahead for good.

Volleyball

Harriton found out the hard way that it’s difficult to get anything past Agnes Irwin’s Gianna Napolean.

The junior had seven solo blocks and 13 total to lead the Owls to a 3-1 victory (15-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-19). Napolean also had nine kills. Junior captain Lauren Karlsen set the offense in motion with 48 assists while Mara Zwlling had 33 digs. NOTRE DAME 3, RIDLEY 1 » Riley Shaak posted 12 kills and 11 blocks as Notre Dame rallied from a 21-25 loss in the first set to win 25-23, 25-20 and 25-14. Maddie Donaphon (12 digs) and Lexi Shreiner (11 digs) led the way on defense. SPRINGFIEL­D 3, W.C. EAST 1 » Senior Morgan Kent’s six kills and one ace held the Cougars prevail 1725, 28-26, 25-17, 25-23. Sarah Eck (six digs), Maddie Sitley (five kills) and Sam Kellaher (four kills) also came up big for Springfiel­d. PENNCREST EARNS SPLIT » The Lions topped Norristown, 3-0, and dropped a 3-2 decision to Methacton in a tri-match at Norristown.

Jordan Schuller had eight kills. Kristina Balta handed out 27 assists and Lilly Mallon contribute­d 17 digs in the 25-14, 25-9, 24-19 triumph over Norristown.

Balta doled out 40 assists as the Lions dropped the second match 27-25, 25-21, 16-25, 20-25 and 1115. Mallon had 26 digs and Carly Venit added nine kills and eight blocks.

Girls Tennis

Rajah Azor, Cheyenne Phillips and Camille Erkine all won their singles matches to help lift Academy Park past Springfiel­d, 4-1, Friday. Aasiyah Bey and Taylor Smith also combined for a doubles victory over Emily Christophe­r and Elizabeth Cavaliere, 6-4 and 6-2.

Taylor Trench and Sharon You of Springfiel­d defeated Academy Park’s Aaliyah Gordon-Davis and Akima Roger at second doubles. EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 4, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 3 » Eighth-grader Ashley Kennedy and Bella Calastri each won at first and second singles to help pace the Churchwome­n. RADNOR 4, SPRING-FORD 3 » Radnor’s winners included Kanon Ciarrocchi at first singles and Bridget Dougherty at third singles. The doubles teams of Annie Burton and Caroline Egg-Krings and Priya Ganesh and Jessica Gusdorff also earned their team points.

Water Polo

Episcopal’s Sean McGarrity scored six times and assisted on two other goals as the Churchmen defeated Mount St. Joe’s 146. Jack O’Reilly made 14 saves in goal. LOYOLA BLAKEFIELD 15, HAVERFORD SCHOOL 14 » Senior John Nelligan had nine goal, two assists, four drawn ejections and a steal, but the Fords fell in an overtime heartbreak­er. TJ Brooks had a goal and two assists, four steals and four drawn ejections and Bram Schork scored twice.
