NETHER PROVIDENCE » The township holds its six annual Family Fun Day from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 (rain date is Sept. 17) at Strath Haven Middle School. Children’s activities and entertainm­ent include games, moon bounces, a petting zoo, face painting, an obstacle course and a stilt walker.

Food is available for sale from food truck vendors I Don’t Give a Fork and PB&Jams, with dessert available from Sweet Josephine’s.

The day includes visits from police and fire department personnel, along with special appearance­s by the Delco Cruisers car club and “Sesame Street’s” Elmo. Guests can also see Stubby the Helicopter, an interactiv­e helicopter from the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center. Docents accompany Stubby to give kids a chance to sit in the cockpit, operate the controls and learn how each works.

WWI-era dinner set for Sept. 22

BROOKHAVEN » The Destinatio­n Delco World War One Centennial Committee presents Dance for Democracy from 6-11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22 at the Brookhaven Community Center. Attire is World War I period costume or black and white. MARPLE » Delaware County Community College offers a 10-week career workshop for individual­s looking to refresh their career. “Reignite Your Career” runs 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays Sept. 18-Nov. 20 at the Marple Campus, 901 S. Media Line Road, Media.

The workshop provides structure and support for men and women attempting to cope with the uncertaint­y of a changing job market and is targeted to those considerin­g a change in career direction such as the unemployed, the under-employed, or the unhappily employed. Participan­ts learn how to manage their own careers and take the Myers-Briggs Personalit­y Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory to assess career satisfiers and occupation­al interests.

They will use card sorts to identify motivated skills, burn-out skills and personal priorities. In addition, participan­ts will identify their strongest marketable skills and develop an individual­ized plan to move ahead proactivel­y. One-to-one consultati­on appointmen­ts with one of the group leaders will be scheduled, and later sessions will explore networking strategies and online tools including LinkedIn and will emphasize the importance of taking a proactive role in career decision making.

Register now for “Launch Your Career Comeback,” a workshop for women that runs Tuesdays Sept. 19-Nov. 21 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Marple Campus. Many women leave the workforce to provide care for children or other relatives. Some work part-time jobs with flexible hours to accommodat­e family schedules. At some point, they may experience the desire to re-launch themselves into full-time, meaningful employment. Re-launching a career can seem challengin­g and overwhelmi­ng after time away. “Launch Your Career Comeback” helps ease such a transition.

Participan­ts receive support, personal attention and a structured approach to career planning and decisionma­king. They will also explore their strengths and possible career options, develop a career-action plan, create a resume, develop a LinkedIn Profile and practice effective interviewi­ng skills. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personalit­y test is used extensivel­y and is included in the price of the workshop.

The workshop is limited to 12 people and seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost of the workshop is $125 for residents of sponsoring school districts and $175 for those in nonsponsor­ing districts.

Shop at Lowe’s, help youth

From now until September 5, Lowe’s customers in Delaware County can donate $1, $5 or $10 at the register to help support the Boys & Girls Club of Chester. Lowe’s launched the in-store customer donation campaign in all of its more than 1,700 U.S. stores during the month of August. The campaign is a part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Back2Schoo­l campaign which helps set youth up for success for the next school year through various national partnershi­ps.

Every day, 11.3 million kids are left unsupervis­ed after school. Boys & Girls Clubs are there to provide kids with quality after-school programmin­g to keep them on track to academic success and a great future. More than 4,300 Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide serve more than 4 million kids, providing

resources and support after school to help kids graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrat­e good character and citizenshi­p, and lead a healthy lifestyle.

The Chester Boys & Girls Club chapter annually serves over 500 youth, ages 6-18 years old, throughout Delaware County. “We are very excited to partner with the Lowe’s in Brookhaven,” said club Executive Director Janet S. Riley-Ford. “We hope that our community will visit our local Lowe’s in large numbers and help Delaware Countyarea kids build great futures and start the school year off right.”

The donations from the campaign will support the Club’s afterschoo­l tutoring, homework help, scuba diving program, tennis and gardening programs.

Lowe’s has supported Boys & Girls Clubs of America since 2009 and has provided $5 million to the club chapters across the country through its Renovation Across the Nation grants program. Visit Lowe’s at 5005 Edgemont Ave., Brookhaven, to help build great futures.
