CHESTER » A city youth killed Monday in a drive-by shooting has been identified as 15-yearold Ronald Lundy Jr., a student at Chester High School, according to Chester police and Chester Upland School District authorities.

Police Chief James Nolan IV said Tuesday that the vehicle believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered. The vehicle was registered to a woman who lives outside the city, but within Delaware County limits.

According to Nolan, the vehicle was a “street rental,” what is becoming a common scenario whereby someone pays to use a private vehicle for the commission of a crime.

Lundy was one of four youths standing in the 1300 block of West Seventh Street when shots rang out. Two other teens, ages 16 and 18, suffered what police described as non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting.

It was shortly after 3 p.m. Monday when police were dispatched to the scene. Arriving officers saw a black youth lying face down on a walkway, according to a release issued by Chester Police Capt. James Chubb. At first contact, the teen was found to be unresponsive.

Meanwhile, officers could hear another victim both moaning and talking from inside a residence in the 1300 block of West Seventh Street.

“Officers began to assess the situation and began to treat the male who was found lying face down on the walkway. This male was later found to be 15 years old, and had what appeared to be two bullet holes in his torso,” the release states. “As officers checked for a pulse, the victim was attempting to breathe on his own. Other officers began to arrive on location and did check on the status of the other male who was moaning and talking inside the residence. This victim was 18 years old and appeared to have been shot in his upper thigh.”

Police then located a third victim in the rear of the 1300 block of West Seventh. He was described as a 16-year-old who was shot in the buttocks.

All three victims were transported to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where the 15-year-old boy died of his injuries. The other two teen victims were listed in stable condition.

According to a brief statement released early Tuesday by a spokesman for Chester Upland School District Superintendent Dr. Juan Baughan, the high school is mourning the loss of one student and the injury of a second student.

“We grieve with their families and friends,” the statement reads, adding that counselors and support staff will be on hand for students and faculty as long as necessary to help them deal with the tragedy.

Lundy’s death brings the 2017 homicide toll for the county to 30, and 23 for Chester.

Anyone with any information concerning the incident is urged to contact city Detective Michael Canfield by e-mail @ mcanfield268@chesterpolice.org, or county Detective Timothy Deery at 610-891-8030.
