Tinicum hosts history programs, from Egyptian mummies to WWII shipyards
TINICUM » Tinicum Memorial Public Library, 620 Seneca St., Essington, welcomes Bill Moller of the township historical society for “Hog Island, World’s Largest Shipyard” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18. Come out to hear the fascinating story of the shipyard along the Delaware River. Registration is requested.
Visit the Tinicum Township Administration Building, 628 N. Governor Printz Blvd., Essington, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, where the library presents “I Want My Mummy! Secrets from the Sands of Egypt” Stephen “Dr. Steve” Phillips, Ph.D., from the Egyptian Section of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthrology returns to Tinicum to share his explorations of ancient Egyptian mummies and their cointuned influence on modern life. Come out for a behind-the-scenes look at archaeological excavations at the Great Pyramids in Egypt. The program is appropriate for middle school ages and up. Registration is encouraged.

Media-UP ready for fall sale
MEDIA » The Media-Upper Providence Free Library Book Sale is set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 21-23 at the library, 1 E. Front St.
The sale features all kinds of books, movies, music and more, including large amounts of books about horseracing, baseball, golf, exercise, railroads and trains, and Asian and vegetarian cookbooks. There is also a huge selection of LPs.
In preparation for the sale, the library has temporarily stopped accepting donations and ask that additional book donations be held until Nov 1.

Kids’ programs start at Norwood
NORWOOD » Norwood Public Library, 512 Welcome Ave., continues to roll out its fall children’s activities. Pokemon Club starts at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, for grades 3 and up. Preschool Connections One welcomes the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union and Sister Bear of the Berenstain Bears at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, recommended for children ages 3-5; Preschool Connections Two follows at 1:30 p.m. with stories and a variety of activities for ages 3-5. Kids in grades K-5 can join in for some fun afterschool at Kids Klub at on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. Parents and caregivers are welcomed to bring their infants for storytime activities on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m.
The library calls all YuGiOh card players and collectors in grades 3 and up to meet at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, to share and play with fellow YuGiOh enthusiasts.

Fun fall at Upper Chi
UPPER CHICHESTER » Upper Chichester Library, 3374 Chichester Ave., #19, Boothwyn, announces diverse programs for schoolchildren in grades K-5 are set for this fall. Favorite fuzzy friends serve as Pals For Reading on Oct. 21. The library is filled with Lego pieces on Nov. 18 as participants build awesome objects at Lego Club Super Saturday. An Origami class is set for Dec. 2 where children to make fun holiday crafts. All Saturday programs begin at 10:30 am.
Boothwyn and surrounding communities “Come Together” for a live benefit performance by Beatlemania Now Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Phoenix at Reliance Firehouse, 1661 Mill Road. All proceeds benefit the Upper Chichester Library. Doors open at 6.
Tickets are $35 and include the show, snacks and soft drinks, door prizes and more surprises. Alcoholic refreshments are available for purchase. Beatlemania is a Broomall-based group which has garnered rave reviews for their performances across the United States, including Trump Plaza and the Borgata in Atlantic City and the Benedum Theater in Pittsburgh.
Flu shots, author talk in Wallingford
NETHER PROVIDENCE » Helen Kate Furness Library, 100 N. Providence Road, Wallingford, welcomes pharmacists from Walgreens for a flu shot day for seniors from 1:303:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4. The shots are free for seniors (65-plus) with a Medicare card, and free for others with prescription insurance cards (bring proof of insurance). All ages are welcomed; no appointment needed. The program will take place in the library’s front room.
Later on Oct. 4, the library welcomes Lisa Barrickman for for author talk on her book “A Case for Kindness: 40 Ways to Love and Inspire Others,” parts of which she wrote at the Helen Kate Furness Free Library. The talk is at 7 p.m. in the Chadwick Auditorium. Barrickman discusses her book, writing and being kind. Copies of “A Case for Kindness” are available for purchase. Sale, fake news, Philly sports at Ridley
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » The Friends of the Ridley Township Public Library hold a two-day sale starting 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, in Garling Hall at the library, 100 E. MacDade Blvd., Folsom. Hardcover books are 50 cents and paperbacks 25 cents. The sale continues noon-2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1 with a bring-your-own-bag sale. Guests can bring a bag and fill it with books for $1 per bag. There is also a buy one DVD or CD and get a second free sale on Sunday. All proceeds support the library.
The library welcomes St. Joseph’s University Associate Professor James Caccamo for “Fake News and the Soul of Democracy” at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4.
