Ridley turns up the defense to down Springfiel­d

Ridley’s volleyball team didn’t take long to dispose of rival Springfiel­d in Monday’s Central League battle.

The Green Raiders got 23 assists, eight digs and five aces from Jackie Kelly and Angela April had a double-double with 12 digs and 11 kills as Ridley swept the Cougars, 3-0, by scores of 25-14, 25-21 and 25-13.

Melanie June was a defensive standout for the Green Raiders with 14 digs, along with three serving aces, and Maria Brown bashed nine kills and swatted away a pair of blocks. STRATH HAVEN 3, RADNOR 0 » The Panthers’ Gabby McGinn led the charge with a well-rounded effort of 10 digs, nine kills, six aces and a block, and Emma Golato set up 16 kills as Strath Haven won 25-21, 25-19, 25-13.

Gretchan Clauss served up three aces for the Panthers. Becca Goldberg mashed eight kills, while Roni Hoover chipped in 12 assists and six digs. GARNET VALLEY 3, MARPLE NEWTOWN 0 » Rachel Cain was the provider for the Jaguars (7-2, 5-0) with 19 assists to go with five aces, Emma Rokosky smashed seven kills and Jordan Gallagher added six aces and five digs as the defending state champs rolled.

Hannah Roberts was a force all over the court for the Tigers, as highlighte­d by her four aces. PENNCREST 3, UPPER DARBY 0 » Jordan Schuller paced the Lions to a 25-11, 25-9, 25-16 win with seven aces and four kills. Tina Balta notched 14 assists and seven aces, while Carly Venit registered five kills and four blocks.

Rylee Shanahan scooped up 20 digs and Alison Ascareggi had five blocks for the Royals.

In the Del Val League: ACADEMY PARK 3, INTERBORO 0 » The Knights (7-3, 6-0) kept their league record unscathed thanks to eight kills and six blocks from Tyliyah Lockman, and Taylor Eiserman tacked on seven kills and four aces in AP’s 25-21, 25-7 and 25-17.

Jessica Jirek and Eliana Gauilan combined for seven kills for the Knights. CHICHESTER 3, CHESTER 0 » Julia Miles led a balanced Eagles effort with eight assists, five kills and five aces. Mackenzie Troutman and Keyairrah Davie each served up five aces as Chichester rolled to wins of 25-16, 25-9, 25-7.

In nonleague action: CARDINAL O’HARA 3, UNIONVILLE 1 » Breanna Hickey was unstoppabl­e for the Lions, cobbling together a 16-kill, 16-dig, three-block outing, and Siobhan Boylan cranked out 12 kills to go with six blocks as O’Hara (9-1) won 25-7, 25-27, 25-15, 25-14. SACRED HEART 3, BONNER-PRENDERGAS­T 1 » Juliana Michniak (12 digs) and Jaycee Webster (10 digs) were dominant at the net for the Lions with 16 kills apiece, and Hannah Martinson tossed up 37 assists to go with four aces as Sacred Heart won 25-14, 2522, 23-25, 25-22.

Natalie Classey’s 15 digs were a bright spot for the Pandas, while Ariana McGeary put down eight kills.

Field Hockey

Sacred Heart Academy found the back of the net early, and once they got rolling, the Lions didn’t stop.

Hannah Seifried was the ringleader with a hat trick and Julia Flood added a pair of goals as Sacred Heart blasted Bristol, 9-0, in a nonleague field hockey game.

Marylauren Franz, Bela Chan, Dani Santora and Catie Corgan also scored, while Colleen Visser picked up the shutout with four saves. INTERBORO 3, NORRISTOWN 2 » Molly Dowling had a pair of goals and Ro Murphy added a goal and an assist as the Bucs (2-7) nipped the Eagles. Bri Matthis chipped in an assist.

In the Central League: SPRINGFIEL­D 2, UPPER DARBY 1 » Michaela Travers and Dana Mirigliana each found the back of the net and Ashlyn Steinstra made 10 saves for the Cougars. Kaitlin Johnson scored for the Royals and goalie Mariama Keita stopped eight shots. GARNET VALLEY 3, RIDLEY 0 » Claire Burke netted a pair of tallies and Olivia Kingsborou­gh also scored for the Jaguars (5-22, 2-1-1). Goalie Megan Finnegan recorded the shutout. HAVERFORD 8, PENNCREST 0 » Katie Redding recorded a hat trick to go with an assist, and Kelsy Knapp scored twice to lead the Fords to a 6-0 lead at halftime.

Sydney Corcoran added two assists, and Caroline Bornazian paired a goal with an assist for the Fords (9-1, 5-0).

Girls Tennis

Academy Park’s Rajah Azor and Penn Wood’s Ixchele Ortiz played to a rare 6-6 (10-10) tie in their No. 1 single match Monday. It had the makings of a Del Val League classic.

Unfortunat­ely, Ortiz had to retire after the first set due to injury, awarding Azor the match victory. AP’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Taylor Smith and Aasiyah Bey won their match to seal the Knights’ 3-2 victory.

Cheyenne Phillips won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for Academy Park, which won its fifth straight Del Val title last week. Penn Wood’s Sallay Ghollie battled Camille Erskine to a 2-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 victory.

In the Central League: HAVERFORD 7, SPRINGFIEL­D 0 » Lia Robben, Chloe Arias and Emma Burhop all won their singles matches as the Fords claimed their first team win of the season.

In nonleague action: SACRED HEART 4, CARDINAL O’HARA 1 » Sacred Heart was buoyed by singles victories from No. 1 Marcella Marino and No. 2 Caroline Lewers. O’Hara’s Caroline Lynch won in straight sets at third singles. J.M. BARRACK 5, KIMBERTON SCHOOL 0 » Dori Hoffman-Filler and Ellie Sherwood were victorious in singles action for the Cougars.

In the Ches-Mont League: KENNETT 6, SUN VALLEY 1 » No. 3 doubles pairing of Hailey Foreacre and Kaitlin Lynch accounted for the Vanguards’ only win.

Boys Golf

After a tough week, Bonner & Prendergas­t bounced back with a 253-292 Catholic League win over Conwell-Egan at par-36 Middletown Country Club..

Rob Dougherty carded a low round of 37, while Dylan Williams and Hayden Smith each shot a 40. Paul Kokol added a 44, Tom Bradley checked in with a 45 and Matt Pyfer contribute­d a 46.

The win puts the Friars (9-8, 6-5) in good position to qualify for the Catholic League playoffs for the 15th straight year. CARDINAL O’HARA 216, LITTLE FLOWER 318, HALLAHAN 345 » Joseph Taggart carded a 2-over par 35 at Walnut Lane Colf Club to lead the Lions (11-3, 10-2) to their 10th consecutiv­e victory. Tom Carroll (34), Luke Pastore (36), Ryan Calderaro (37), Luke Savage (37) and Michael Larkin (39) rounded out the scoreboard for O’Hara.

In nonleague action: DEVON PREP, JENKINTOWN 262, GLEN MILLS 266 » Justice Orfield shot a 51 to pace the Bulls at par37 Upper Dublin in the tri-match. Trevor Brown finished with a 52 and Jaden Lewis added a 53.
