Harrah’s supports hurricane relief with Friday fundraiser
CHESTER » Harrah’s Philadelphia hosts a free Hurricane Relief Show from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, outside at The Bar At The Block to support victims of hurricane-devastated areas across the country. Hosted by Jammin Jessie of Radio 104.5, who is doing a CD raid of their studio sessions, the free event includes performances by 52 Pick Up, Old News Band, and Jack and Diana as well as music by a DJ and the opportunity to win raffle items and gift baskets. Haverford debate postponed
HAVERFORD » The League of Women Voters announces that the upcoming forum for candidates for commissioner in Haverford Township has been postponed; two of the candidates were unable to attend. Originally scheduled for Sept. 27, it has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at a location to be announced. Candidates from Wards 2,4, 6, and 8 will be in attendance. Questions will come from the audience for the candidates.

Apply for SSD nursery program
SPRINGFIELD » Springfield High School’s Rainbow Junction Nursery School is currently accepting applications for the 2018 session. Rainbow Junction is a four day per week preschool taught by the Child Development classes held at the high school. The preschool meets 9:30 a.m.-noon TuesdayFriday from March through June for approximately 13 weeks. Recognizing that this is one of a child’s first school experiences, Rainbow Junction addresses the total development of the child through free play, organized lessons/activities and learning centers.
Children must currently be toilet trained, be between ages 3-4 by Feb. 1, 2018 (and not turn 5 before the end of the school year in June) and be residents of the Springfield/Morton school district in order to be eligible. The cost of the entire program is $125 per child to be paid at the initial parent meeting (in February).
Students are picked by accepting the first five girls and the first five boys who apply (and meet all of the criteria). A waiting list will be kept. Parents are notified within a week of application.

NEWTOWN » The Newtown Square Railroad Museum invites all ages to its Pennsylvania Railroad Day Community Day Festival from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. Featured throughout the festival are local vendors, antique cars, food from the grill, music by locals and a little train ride for children.
The festival offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the history of Newtown Square as it relates to early transportation and innovations of the 19th century. The growth of the crossroads community of Newtown Square mirrors developments in all of Chester County.
Amid the backdrop of the 18th and 19th-century railroad cars on exhibit in the Newtown Square Railroad Museum, amateur historians are on hand to give tours and share colorful stories about local history and the vital role of transportation on the 19th-century experience in the area.
The Newtown Square Railroad Museum is a partnership in preservation with the Newtown Square Historic Society. Admission is free; donations are welcomed ($5 is suggested). With the donation, visitors get a chance to win a framed drawing (valued at $500) by a local artist. Other prizes are also available.
