Immaculata welcomes back alumnae, former prof to science faculty

EAST WHITELAND » Immaculata University announces that Sister Rose M. Mulligan, IHM, Ph.D., has joined the faculty of the Natural and Computatio­nal Sciences Department as an associate professor in chemistry.

“I am thrilled to be a part of Immaculata’s faculty. The education I received and the friendship­s that I formed here as a student changed my life,” said Mulligan on her return to Immaculata. “I am grateful to be here and hope to pass on the Immaculata spirit to the current students!”

Born and raised in Jim Thorpe, Pa., Mulligan is a 1984 graduate of Marian Catholic High School. She professed her vows as an IHM sister and earned her bachelor’s degree in theology from Immaculata College in 1989. After receiving her master’s in chemistry from Drexel University in 1999, Mulligan continued her studies at Drexel where she was a teaching assistant in the Chemistry Department and earned a Ph.D. in chemistry in 2002.

Taking her academic career full circle, Mulligan joined Immaculata’s faculty as an assistant professor of chemistry for four years. Then in 2007, she was given the opportunit­y to serve in vocation ministry. Now she is joining her two loves by serving as the director of vocations for the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Vocation Office and an associate professor in chemistry at Immaculata.

Located on the Main Line in scenic Chester County, 20 miles west of Philadelph­ia, Immaculata University is a Catholic comprehens­ive, coeducatio­nal institutio­n of higher learning. On November 12, 1920, the Commonweal­th of Pennsylvan­ia granted a college charter at the request of of the the Sisters, Servants Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) thus making Immaculata the first Catholic women’s college in the region. The IHM Sisters’ mission of educating women for more than 165 years has produced approximat­ely 22,000 alumni worldwide and currently has nearly 3,000 students enrolled in 53 undergradu­ate majors, seven master’s degree programs, three doctoral degree programs, and over 40 additional profession­al endorsemen­t, certificat­e and certificat­ion programs.
