FOR PETE’S SAKE

Farewell, Pete Mackanin. I hope the Phillies’ next manager can rise to the level of incompetence that gets people calling in to Sound Off with the entertaining level of vitriol he did. I guess the third possibility besides mediocre and poor is that the club gets a good manager, but I’m not holding my breath on that one. MOCK THE PROCESS

FINISH UP

Could someone tell me where I can get wood furniture refinished, especially oak chairs? I live in Havertown. Thank you very much. CURIOUS

SO LONG, JEN

I watched “The Voice” the other night, and Jennifer Hudson has got to go. The show is not hers, – bring back Alicia. CONCERNED VIEWER

RAISING McCAIN

“Jackie” says they get the feeling that John McCain is a sleeper agent for the Democrats. Why? Because he actually suggested working with the Democrats to try to get something done, rather than have the gridlock we’ve had in Washington for so many years? People like you are so stupid, I don’t even know why their print your Sound Offs.

A FINE WHINE

“Backwashed” is complaining about a new show being put on TV that they never plan to watch, so why are they complaining about it? Because people like them always have something to bellyache about. And calling people intellectual idiots makes no sense. That’s a contradiction in terms. If you’re an intellectual, you’re not an idiot. You, however, are not an intellectual, so you’re an idiot.

MILLION DOLLAR BABIES IT ADS UP

Please tell me that this: Why do tax dollars subsidize a $1 billion business when the players and employees are making millions? RG IN RIDLEY PARK

“Tommy From Aston” is correct about the cable companies. When you got cable when it first came, the big selling point was using with cable there were no commercials – zero, not one commercial. That’s when you had the wire from your TV all the way to a box that was sitting on your coffee table. Yeah, just like everything else –as soon as you buy it, everything starts to go down. It’s worse and worse and worse and price goes up and up and up.

MORE TAXES

I saw the article in the Times last week, “Advocates press state of Pennsylvania for more pre-K funding.” I know what’s going to happen: The state’s going to press us for more tax money to give the so-called education advocates their programs. I’ll tell you something: Our generation is now paying for all these education programs that advocates and talking heads are demanding, and we didn’t even have kindergarten, never mind pre-K. So I guess you’re going to say we didn’t turn out so good. Well, it hasn’t stopped us from paying for everybody else’s expanded schooling. Get over it; stop asking for freebies. Do what I did when my son was in preschool – I paid it and I took him every day.

REMEMBER BILL

To “Bill From Broomall,” while you’re talking about Donald Trump in Vietnam, be sure to mention Bill Clinton and Vietnam. Did you forget?

FACT-FREE ZONE

“Wise Up” is another typical right-winger, as stupid as the day is long and somebody who loves to be fact free. Obama was more articulate than how Howard Dean or John Edwards, but not by much, because both of them were very articulate – unlike your hero who speaks at a fourth grade level. I guess you like that a lot better then, don’t you?

TO YOUR HEALTH

To “Dems’ Guy,” I don’t think John McCain is a sleeper agent for the Democrats, I think he’s just clinging to the idea that in a representative government – especially in the upper house like the Senate is, legislators are supposed to not be beholden to either their party leaders or their constituents. Their party leaders can make their life miserable and their constituents can vote them out, but in that moment they’re the elected official and they can do what they think is right. That being said, Obamacare is awful, this bill isn’t much better,.
