Curry helps Chester stay unbeaten with win over Glen Mills

Lamaj Curry bested the field with a time of 18 minutes, 13 seconds as Chester remained undefeated with a 20-35 Del Val League boys cross country win over Glen Mills.

Abdul Griggs (18:33), Malachi Langley (19:01) and Mahki Little (19:33) finished in third, fourth and fifth places, respective­ly. Ramik Lawrence paced the Bulls with a second-place time of 18:31 while Darren Howard (19:41) took sixth.

Field Hockey

Grace Magnotta posted two goals and an assist as eight players got in on the scoring action in Sacred Heart’s 11-1 rout of Academy Park in nonleague action.

Hannah Seifried and Dani Santora added two goals apiece for the Lions (7-6), who led at halftime, 5-0. Liz Franz chipped in with a goal and two assists and goalie Colleen Visser made two saves.

In other nonleague action: COATESVILL­E 3, UPPER DARBY 2 » Grace Muldoon registered a goal and an assist, while Marie Smith also found the back of the net for the Royals. Brandy Heroo finished the lone goal with eight saves in net. AVON GROVE 2, STRATH HAVEN 1 » Emma McCulley’s overtime tally handed the Panthers a difficult loss. Katie Capalbo netted Haven’s goal off an assist by Rori Caufield and Emily Raech. Kay Walker stopped six shots between the posts.

Girls Tennis

In a match originally scheduled two weeks ago, but suspended due to inclement weather, Episcopal Academy returned to Penn Charter Monday afternoon to put the finishing touches on a 6-1 Inter-Ac League win.

Ashley Kennedy got things started at first singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Bella Calastri was triumphant in the No. 2 match for the Churchwome­n.

In the Central League: HAVERFORD 5, PENNCREST 2 » Emma Burhop capped off a steady season in Central League play with another win at third singles for the Fords, who took all four doubles matches. Charlotte Hamburg and Christina O’Halloran set the tone with a brisk 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Top duo Jessica Au and June Park also claimed victory in straight sets.

The Lions received winning performanc­es from singles players Sarah Cheng and Ruth John.

In the Del Val League: PENN WOOD 4, CHICHESTER 1 » Fatoumata Diarra and Motuneyo Agebey were victorious in straight sets at second and third doubles, respective­ly, for the Patriots.

Alexa Jung and Haley Malloy earned a 6-5 (7-4), 6-4 decision at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles.

In nonleague action: RADNOR 4, UPPER DUBLIN 3 » Kanon Ciarrocchi, Lucy Hederick and Bridget Dougherty led the Raiders to a clean sweep in singles play. Radnor’s No. 4 doubles pairing of Anna Choi and Natalie Clarke also triumphed.

In the Tri-County Independen­t School League: J.M. BARRACK 5, KIMBERTON SCHOOL 0 » Dori Hoffman-Filler, Janie Hershman and Harrish Parish were successful in singles action for Barrack. Anita Hoffman and Ellie Sherwood won at second doubles, 8-0.

Girls Soccer

Grace Gormley and Hannah Sareyka each registered two goals and an assist as The Christian Academy defeated PhilMont Christian, 5-2, in a Bicentenni­al League game.

Lindsay Haseltine added a goal and two assists and goalie Emma Mansfield thwarted five shots. Ruth Walton played well on defense for the Crusaders (66, 4-4).

In the Catholic League: ARCHBISHOP WOOD 3, CARDINAL O’HARA 0 » The Vikings handed the Lions their first league loss of the season thanks in large part to Maggie Cliggett’s two-goal game. Kerry Patterson made 10 saves in net for O’Hara.

Boys Soccer

Daniel Deger did the damage in Delco Christian’s 2-0 Bicentenni­al League decision over Lower Moreland.

Deger deposited both tallies. The first came off a penalty kick and the second was a direct kick from midfield.

Max Wilson and Tim Fitzgerald excelled defensivel­y in front of goalie Brody Veleber (12 saves).

Boys Golf

Glen Mills registered its best team score of the season, despite a 229-247 loss to nonleague foe Oxford.

Christophe­r Buggs, who birdied at four, posted the low score of the season for the Bulls with a 45 at the Golf Course at Glen Mills (par 36).

Glen Mills shared the Del Val League title this season with Chichester.
