GV’s Clark finds a silver lining in loss to Shanahan

-

Doing his due diligence Friday night, Garnet Valley volleyball coach Mark Clark called in to eulogize his team’s 3-0 loss to Bishop Shanahan.

“That’s the No. 1 ranked team in the state,” Clark said after the Downingtown school had posted wins of 25-21, 25-11 and 25-22 on his Jaguars. “They are solid all around. It’s crazy.”

Actually, Clark was reminded, it was a little crazy what his team did last season — winning a state championship match against Parkland after scoring three other victories in its first trip to states. This after Parkland had ousted District 1 champion Bishop Shanahan in the state semifinals.

“That’s right, they were ranked No. 1 for much of the season last year,” Clark said. “Thanks for cheering me up.”

Trying to do that earlier were Garnet Valley’s Erin Patterson (eight kills), Ally Hartney (six kills, seven blocks), Amber Goldberg (22 digs) and Rachel Cain (21 assists). The Jags suffered just their third defeat in 13 overall outings and are 8-0 in Central League play.
