Make bids, benefit AP post prom

SHARON HILL » Academy Park High School After Prom 2018 holds a Quarter Mania Auction at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in the cafeteria of the high school, 300 Calcon Hook Road.

A Quarter Mania Auction is a a cross between an auction and a raffle where people “bid” to win a prize donated from various home business vendors participating in the event. Bids are from one to four quarters. There are five rounds of vendor items per round, with over 50 items total. Vendors currently signed up to participate are Avon, Color Street, P!PHANY, Pampered Chef, Party Lite Candles, Pink Zebra, Premier Designs, Scentsy, Senegence/Lipsense, Tastefully Simple, Thirty-One Bags and Tupperware.

Admission cost of $5 per person includes a paddle with a number on it that is used for guests’ individual bidding on the items they want to try to win. Corresponding numbered chips are added into the drawing bin to be used once the auction rounds begin.

As each item is offered up for bid, guests bid the number of quarters designated by the auctioneer for the item and hold up their paddle. Once all bids are in, a chip is then drawn. If the number on the chip matches someone who has bid, they’ve won the item. If not, chips are continued to be drawn until one matches a bidding paddle.

Refreshments are available to purchase, and there is a 50-50 drawing at the end of the evening. All proceeds benefit Academy Park’s 2017 After Prom.
