Emily M. Crispino
Emily M. Crispino, 91, died Oct. 10, 2017, at Christiana Care in Newark, Del. She was the proud mother of one daughter, Ruth Ann Weidner Straley, whom she raised alone while maintaining a full-time job, meeting every challenge and obstacle life threw their way with determination, grace and love.
Emily was born and raised in Delaware County. She was a longtime resident of Chester and Ridley Park before moving to Wilmington, Del., where she resided with Ruth and her son-in-law, Gary Straley, since 2015.
She was employed as a production coordinator for 27 years at Westinghouse. She later worked for 15 years at the Riddle Memorial Hospital Thrift Shop, where she was also a longtime volunteer.
Devoted to her Catholic faith, she was a longtime parishioner at St. Madeline Roman Catholic Church in Ridley Park, where she was also a member of the Sodality and served as a volunteer money counter.
Emily cherished her role as family matriarch. She was a natural caretaker, whether it be for a family member, friend or neighbor.
She enjoyed many exotic cruises, as well as local day trips with her sister, fellow seniors and friends to fun destinations including casinos. She also enjoyed reading; playing cards, especially Pinochle with family; and Thursday night dinners at the former Italian Village in Ridley Township with close friends, the late Dorothy Buriak and the late Archie Miller.
Her memberships included the Over 50 and Young at Heart senior groups in Pennsylvania, and the Brandywine senior group in Delaware. She also participated in bowling leagues in Delaware County and was an avid Phillies fan.
Emily was a cancer survivor since 2004 and a hospice graduate in 2016.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Josephine Kularch Crispino; and six siblings, Dominic and Anthony Crispino, Walter Regetto, Mary Gaudiello, Stella Hackman and Wanda Huboky.
In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by one sister, Frances Crispino Quinn of Wilmington, Del; two grandchildren, Tracy (Troy) Johnston of Concord and Daniel (Kari) Straley of St. Louis, Mo.; two great-grandsons, Troy Jr. and Alexander Johnston; two step-grandsons, Brad (Linda) Straley of Florida, and Mark Straley of Texas; many step-greatgrandchildren; a dear niece, Rose Quinn, many other nieces and nephews; her fur buddy, Max; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9:1510:15 a.m. at St. Madeline Church, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will immediately follow in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, Linwood.
