PHIL ‘ER UP

I read Phil Heron’s column this week about kidney stones. I hope you’re feeling better, Phil. You’re a great editor and I read the Daily Times every day. I’m 83 and I feel like I’ve been reading the paper since it started.

TAXES NEVER DIE

To “The LCB Delivers,” you’re still caught up in this myth about “the LBC is the only state agency finishing in the black” and without them all the money would dry up. The vast majority of the socalled revenue from the LBC is in alcohol taxes. If we got rid of the LBC, those taxes wouldn’t go anywhere. No politician would ever draft a privatization bill that got rid of them. Any remaining money they bring in would easily be made up or exceeded by licensing fees and other costs private stores would have to pay to the state.

WHAT A DISGRACE

I saw in the paper someone rented space in the old Pennhurst state mental hospital. I think it’s totally deplorable and really disrespectful to the many thousands of people who suffered there from mental illness to have a Halloween attraction there. I think it’s a sad, sad state of affairs. HENNY THE BARTENDER

REVENGE OF THE TURTLE WORSHIPPERS

I just wanted to congratulate all the tree-huggers in Swarthmore and Wallingford for when they limited I-476 to just two lanes. 476 was just nominated as the 12th mostcongested road in the entire United States – job well done. HOWARD FROM RIDLEY PARK

TERMINATE THIS

To “Future Shock,” maybe the androids and cyborgs running things in the future should take Sound Off to be indicative of all people during this time – they might think humans in the future have the capacity to be as equally ridiculous and amusing and keep them around. THE DEATH OF US

“’I’ Out For Safety” says their logic to avoid assembling in crowds, and that will keep the bad guys from winning. Well, the bad guys have already won – the majority in this country is being done in by the minority, since the gun nuts and the NRA have already won.

SEE THE BIG PICTURE

The Times had a wonderful article this week on the protesters at the Mariner East 2 pipeline on Route 352, but of course the right-wingers will save “these people are antiprogress and anti-jobs,” etc. But that’s always been a problem with rightwingers – they always think of the short term. They never think of the long term; they have no vision. That’s why they’re such dullards.

CAN IT HAPPEN HERE?

I agree with “Or Maybe Not.” It’s amazing how the left will politicize almost any situation it get its hands on but will conveniently adopt an “it can’t happen here” attitude when it suits them. When the Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment were written, large segments of this country’s population was made up of groups who came here because of religious persecution in England, which usually meant being disarmed. Generations of enjoying freedom in this country has obviously dulled certain people’s perspective.

McCAIN, THE GOAT

John McCain may have been a hero while he was in the military, but right now he’s one of the biggest traitors in the history of this country. I say that because he’s allowing his personal dislike for Trump to dictate how he votes in Congress, even if he knows something the Trump advocates would benefit the people in this country. It’s just it’s a shame and he should resign. GET OUTA HERE

WONDER WHY

To the people who were complaining this week about Vice President Pence and the airplane going home from the game: I wonder how much Obama charged up with taking his family, his mother-inlaw and so on all the way to Hawaii and to Europe. I wonder what that cost the taxpayers. We never got to hear about that. LET’S CHANGE THE SUBJECT
