Sterling’s brace helps Penn Wood book impressive win

Romario Sterling lived up to his last name Saturday.

The Penn Wood striker scored the gamewinnin­g goal with seven minutes left in regulation as Penn Wood nipped Strath Haven, 3-2, in nonleague boys soccer action. Sterling scored his first goal a mere two minutes into the second half.

Goodwill Agbaadem (six saves) made a big stop late in the second half to preserve the win. Abdullia Barrie had the other goal for the Patriots (12-2-3).

Emmet Young and Luke Mutz had a goal apiece for the Panthers. Noah Atsaves and Brett Burns split time in goal and combined for nine saves.

In other nonleague matches: RIDLEY 2, INTERBORO 1 » Adam Louricki netted the game-winner in overtime for the Green Raiders, who trailed at halftime. Brendan Zepp left Interboro’s defense dazed and confused when he scored the equalizer in the first half.

Ciarrocchi claimed third place at the Central League Championsh­ips Saturday at the Healthplex.

Hederick and Ciarrocchi, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, won by default over the Strath Haven pairing of Megan Kidd and Emma Lee.

Conestoga’s Priya Aravindhan and Olivia Dodge captured the title with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over teammates Maddie Wood and Nina Herman. Hederick and Ciarrocchi lost a 6-4, 6-0 decision in the semifinals, while Kidd and Lee fell to Wood and Herman, 6-2, 6-0.

The top six pairing advance to the PIAA Championsh­ips.

Volleyball

Maddie Donaphan came up with nine digs, but Notre Dame suffered its first loss of the season, 3-0, to Padua Academy.

Elise Butler paired five digs with four kills, and Riley Shaak added four kills and two blocks for the Irish (14-1), who dropped games by margins of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-14.
