Alan A. Byles, age 62, died peacefully on October 20, 2017.

Born in Philadelph­ia and raised in Springfiel­d, PA, Alan was a 1978 graduate of Drexel University. He was a longtime resident of Harrisburg but returned to the Delaware County area where he spent the past 7 years.

Alan served eight years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. He made a career in IT at Embarq and shared his wealth of computer knowledge with many students at Harrisburg Community College where he was a professor. Alan was a parishione­r of St. Catherine of Laboure in Harrisburg and served as the president of Rainbow Hills Swim Club.

Alan loved swimming, rowing, building computers and collecting music, especially Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Garth Brooks & Elvis Presley. He enjoyed vacationin­g with his family in Virginia Beach and looked forward to Kohr Brothers ice cream on the boardwalk.

Preceded in death by his parents, Alan T. Byles (1997) and Della Byles (2014).

Alan is survived by his two children who have both followed his path in military service. His son, Anthony Byles, is a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy, and his daughter, Alison Byles, is a Helicopter Mechanic in the Marines. He is also survived by his former wife of 25 years, Amy Byles, and his siblings Carol Merton of Media, Michelle Byles of Pottstown, and Paul Byles of Marcus Hook.

Services: Friends are invited to Alan’s viewing this Wednesday evening 7-9 p.m. and Thursday morning 9-10 a.m. BOTH at the Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at Nativity BVM, 30 E. Franklin St. Media, PA 19063. Burial will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
