RADNOR » Penn Medicine Radnor Run celebrates its 40th year on Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Radnor Township Building, 301 Iven Ave., Wayne, PA. The race features a certified 5-mile timed course and a 1-mile fun run/walk for all ages. The event benefits the American Lung Associatio­n in Pennsylvan­ia and its mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.

The event’s main race is a 5-mile USA Track & Field sanctioned and certified race through the surroundin­g Radnor neighborho­od, starting at 8:30 a.m. The fun run/walk is untimed. Presenting sponsor Penn Medicine hosts the health fair at the start and finish line.

Parking for the event will be located at the Penn Medicine facility at 250 King of Prussia Road in Wayne. Shuttle buses will bring participan­ts to Radnor Township Building. Participan­ts may not park at the township building. The last shuttle departs for the start line at 8 a.m. Buses resume at approximat­ely 9:40 a.m.

Fundraisin­g for the event continues through Nov. 30 in honor of Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Top fundraisin­g teams and individual­s are announced on Dec. 1.

After school programs honored today

LANSDOWNE » Visit the Lansdowne YMCA, 2210 Garrett Road, from 5-6 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 26, for a Lights On Afterschoo­l Rally. The open house is one of 7,500 Lights On Afterschoo­l rallies nationwide held this year to draw attention to the need for more afterschoo­l programs.

The event features a short presentati­on from children in the YMCA’s School Age programs, with appearance­s by guests Upper Darby Mayor Thomas N. Micozzie, event sponsors Full Range Physical Therapy and Rehab Services and Ralph and Erin DiGiovanni and family, along with parents and family members of School Age kids.

As an associatio­n, the Community YMCA School Age programs currently serve nearly 300 children in Delaware County, providing them with a safe place to go after school. According to data from the Afterschoo­l Alliance, 15.1 million children are without adult supervisio­n in the afternoon hours. Afterschoo­l programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning.

Shed light on domestic violence

CHESTER » The National Congress of Black Women Delco Chapter presents “A Celebratio­n of Sisterhood: Survivors as Providers” domestic violence awareness program from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Willie Mae Leake Center, 701 Yarnall St. The event is free and open to the public.

Honor veterans in Haverford Reserve

HAVERFORD » Athertyn, a 55-plus community located in the Haverford Reserve, holds a ceremony to honor veterans who served at home and abroad during World War I and veterans of all campaigns at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. The event is hosted in partnershi­p with Saving Hallowed Ground, an organizati­on dedicated to promoting civic engagement and the stewardshi­p of a community’s military history through handson marker and monument preservati­on.

Members of the community are invited to join Athertyn homeowners, representa­tives from Haverford Township, Todd Pohlig of Pohlig Builders, and local Boy Scout Troop 144 for this special commemorat­ion. Buglers of America play a patriotic performanc­e for the event.

The ceremony begins with the unfurling of a 20x30 foot traveling American Flag and a roll call to honor wartime residents of Haverford and the surroundin­g areas. Following the ceremony, participan­ts are welcome to participat­e in the memorial planting of a Nuttall Oak tree at the entrance to the Haverford Reserve. The tree is known to live for up to 300 years and has been graciously donated by Athertyn’s landscape consultant, John Rockwell Hosbach of Rockwell Associates.

Fall fun in Havertown Saturday

HAVERFORD » The Havertown Harvest Fair is set for Saturday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. in the parking lot of the township building, 2325 Darby Road, Havertown.

Come out for crafts, seasonal entertainm­ent and refreshmen­ts. Presented by Kelly Music for Life and the Haverford Guild of Craftsmen, the event features a daytime juried marketplac­e of handcrafte­d goods and creations. Other items and gifts are available for sale in time for holiday shopping.

The Haverford Guild of Craftsmen marketplac­e is open from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The music tent, beer and wine garden, and fire pit continue until 9.

Haverford High School radio station WHHS present select musical acts throughout the day and evening, along with performanc­es from area musicians, dance troupes and other entertaine­rs.

McClay scholarshi­p fundraiser Nov. 10

The Jason Scott McClay Memorial Scholarshi­p Award was created in honor of a beloved classmate, teammate and community member of the Haverford High School Class of 1992. A U.S. Navy veteran, Jason is remembered by all who knew him as a hard working, friendly, outgoing and kind individual. Jason was a varsity football and lacrosse letter winner during his time at Haverford High School. The award will be given annually to a deserving multiple-sport male and female student-athlete. The criterion for this award is dedication, enthusiasm, compassion, and leadership on and off the athletic field.
