Register now for 40th annual Radnor Run Sunday in Wayne
RADNOR » Penn Medicine Radnor Run celebrates its 40th year on Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Radnor Township Building, 301 Iven Ave., Wayne, PA. The race features a certified 5-mile timed course and a 1-mile fun run/walk for all ages. The event benefits the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania and its mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
The event’s main race is a 5-mile USA Track & Field sanctioned and certified race through the surrounding Radnor neighborhood, starting at 8:30 a.m. The fun run/walk is untimed. Presenting sponsor Penn Medicine hosts the health fair at the start and finish line.
Parking for the event will be located at the Penn Medicine facility at 250 King of Prussia Road in Wayne. Shuttle buses will bring participants to Radnor Township Building. Participants may not park at the township building. The last shuttle departs for the start line at 8 a.m. Buses resume at approximately 9:40 a.m.
Fundraising for the event continues through Nov. 30 in honor of Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Top fundraising teams and individuals are announced on Dec. 1.
Cost for 5K registration is $35 by Oct. 26; $40 online from Oct. 27-29 and day of race registration at the township building between 7-8 a.m. For information and registration, visit www.action.lung.org/ radnorrun
After school programs honored today
LANSDOWNE » Visit the Lansdowne YMCA, 2210 Garrett Road, from 5-6 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 26, for a Lights On Afterschool Rally. The open house is one of 7,500 Lights On Afterschool rallies nationwide held this year to draw attention to the need for more afterschool programs.
The event features a short presentation from children in the YMCA’s School Age programs, with appearances by guests Upper Darby Mayor Thomas N. Micozzie, event sponsors Full Range Physical Therapy and Rehab Services and Ralph and Erin DiGiovanni and family, along with parents and family members of School Age kids.
As an association, the Community YMCA School Age programs currently serve nearly 300 children in Delaware County, providing them with a safe place to go after school. According to data from the Afterschool Alliance, 15.1 million children are without adult supervision in the afternoon hours. Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning.

Honor veterans in Haverford Reserve
HAVERFORD » Athertyn, a 55-plus community located in the Haverford Reserve, holds a ceremony to honor veterans who served at home and abroad during World War I and veterans of all campaigns at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. The event is hosted in partnership with Saving Hallowed Ground, an organization dedicated to promoting civic engagement and the stewardship of a community’s military history through handson marker and monument preservation.
Members of the community are invited to join Athertyn homeowners, representatives from Haverford Township, Todd Pohlig of Pohlig Builders, and local Boy Scout Troop 144 for this special commemoration. Buglers of America play a patriotic performance for the event.
The ceremony begins with the unfurling of a 20x30 foot traveling American Flag and a roll call to honor wartime residents of Haverford and the surrounding areas. Following the ceremony, participants are welcome to participate in the memorial planting of a Nuttall Oak tree at the entrance to the Haverford Reserve. The tree is known to live for up to 300 years and has been graciously donated by Athertyn’s landscape consultant, John Rockwell Hosbach of Rockwell Associates.

Fall fun in Havertown Saturday
HAVERFORD » The Havertown Harvest Fair is set for Saturday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. in the parking lot of the township building, 2325 Darby Road, Havertown.
Come out for crafts, seasonal entertainment and refreshments. Presented by Kelly Music for Life and the Haverford Guild of Craftsmen, the event features a daytime juried marketplace of handcrafted goods and creations. Other items and gifts are available for sale in time for holiday shopping.
The Haverford Guild of Craftsmen marketplace is open from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The music tent, beer and wine garden, and fire pit continue until 9.
Haverford High School radio station WHHS present select musical acts throughout the day and evening, along with performances from area musicians, dance troupes and other entertainers.

The Jason Scott McClay Memorial Scholarship Award was created in honor of a beloved classmate, teammate and community member of the Haverford High School Class of 1992. A U.S. Navy veteran, Jason is remembered by all who knew him as a hard working, friendly, outgoing and kind individual. Jason was a varsity football and lacrosse letter winner during his time at Haverford High School. The award will be given annually to a deserving multiple-sport male and female student-athlete. The criterion for this award is dedication, enthusiasm, compassion, and leadership on and off the athletic field.
