Sarah M. Genther (nee McBride), a longtime resident of Drexel Hill, died October 19, 2017 after a brief illness. Sarah attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Kensington and joined the U.S. Army at the onset of the U.S. involvemen­t in World War II. She often told stories of her experience­s on Army hospital ships and places they traveled, such as Okinawa, Japan. Sarah was very proud of her profession and their role during the war. Sarah married her husband of 48 years, Robert P. Genther, shortly after returning from her war duties.

They settled in Delaware County where they raised four sons. Sarah continued her work as a R.N. for over 30 years, in the office of Dr. Pasquale Guarini. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Genther, her son, Raymond B. Genther and her sister, Mickey (William). She is survived by her sons, R. Philip Genther, Joseph Genther (Karen) and Christophe­r Genther (Linda). She is also survived by her brother, Bernard McBride (Arlene), 8 grandchild­ren and 9 great grandchild­ren.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6 - 9pm., O’Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfiel­d Rd., Springfiel­d, PA 19064 and on Fri., Oct. 27 at 9am in St. Bernadette Church, Drexel Hill. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10.30 am. Burial SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Philabunda­nce, 3616 S. Galloway St., Phila., PA 19148.
