Girl shot in arm on Chester street
Police probe possible link to earlier shooting
CHESTER » A 15-year-old girl was shot in the arm Sunday night, and authorities on Monday were investigating a possible connection into the Oct. 21 shooting on a city basketball court that left four people wounded.
Based on information provided by the victim, she was with two other girls in the 2900 block of West 11th Street when she was shot, Police Chief James Nolan IV said.
According to Nolan, city Officer Ricci Pyle was the first officer to arrive at the scene, shortly after 8:15 p.m. Sunday. Paramedics were already treating the victim, who was subsequently taken to CrozerChester Medical Center.
Though police had been notified of a possible second victim in the shooting, no one was located, Nolan said.
The victim indicated that she had just walked outside of house and was standing with two other girls when gunfire erupted from the area of 11th and Harwick streets, Nolan said.
At least seven shots were fired from two weapons. Authorities recovered both 7.62 mm casings consistent with a rifle, as well as .40-caliber casings from a handgun, Nolan said.
“They were the same type and caliber of rounds found on the basketball court. We are investigating any potential connection,” Nolan said, referring to the Oct. 21 shooting in the 1200 block of West Carla Lane. That shooting was reported shortly before 6 p.m. No one has been charged in that case.
There were residual damages from Sunday’s shooting to cars and houses, including a house about a block away in the 3000 block of West 12th Street, according to Nolan.
