GOP council candidates truly know the real Delco

To the Times: Tuesday, Nov. 7, marks an extremely important day across the county – Election Day. Even if you do not follow politics, I’m sure this campaign season, you have come across mailers, local newspaper headlines or even a televised commercial. Before you head to the polls on Tuesday, November 7, I would ask of you to consider the following.

This year is a big year for our local elections. There are many positions on the ballot, including two seats for County Council. County Council is a five-member team that governs Delaware County. Their duties are numerous and varied. They have the authority to pass ordinances, resolutions and proclamations as well as provide budgets and the personnel to meet the needs of Delaware County as they arise.

One of the candidates running for County Council is my father, John J. Perfetti. His running mate on the Republican Party ticket is Dave White.

This election is about OUR communities. It is about electing those who know and truly care about OUR county. This election is about ensuring our communities are looked after and cared for by people who have a real understanding about who we (DELCO) are. The gentlemen running on the Republican ticket are just that — local. They are both lifelong residents of Delaware County and they absolutely have an understanding for how special Delaware County is.

This Election Day is not about “changing Washington, D.C.” or a hashtag campaign of “#resistance” or “#notmypresident.” This election is not a stepping stone to gain a greater political position such as a senator, state representative or congressman down the road. The opponents on the Democratic ticket have expressed just that; they have explained they decided to run as a result of the most recent presidential election in order to “change Washington.” Both candidates are corporate business owners – executives, who run their businesses in New York City and New Jersey — not Delaware County. One should ask, do they even have a vested interest here in Delaware County?

John Perfetti and Dave White have dedicated their lives both personally and professionally to Delaware County. If you had the opportunity to interact with them at one of the many events they attended over the past few months, you know, they absolutely love Delco. They get energized by the people that surround them in this great county.

Although political tension has been high in the United States since the presidential election and the divide between parties is now greater than ever, I urge you to take a step back before selecting your candidates of choice this Election Day. Before stepping into the voting booth and selecting a straight party because of what has taken place in Washington (if that is your philosophy), I urge you to ask yourself a simple question – who could you call with regards to a problem you are having and who would actually answer your call? Who would have a true understanding of your situation and a genuine desire to help?

I can wholeheartedly say, my father John Perfetti and Dave White would. They would because they are Delco. They would because they genuinely care about our great community. They would because they will continue to build and make Delaware County better each and every day they are in office.
