Chesco woman faces alleged 8th DUI charge

- By Staff Report

WEST WHITELAND » Police asked a Downingtown woman to turn herself in because she had a warrant for a DUI charge, but a week later she was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence again, the 8th time she’s been charged with driving under the influence.

West Whiteland police announced on Thursday that Mildred Dixon, 56, of Downingtown, was charged with DUI and traffic offenses on Sept. 29 after officers responded to the area of East Boot Road and Pottstown Pike for an alleged erratic driver. A patrol officer located the vehicle, initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Dixon, who police identified as the driver. Police said Dixon was arrested after allegedly failing field sobriety tests and she was released on a criminal summons.

Police said an arrest warrant was issued for Dixon on Oct. 20 by Judge John Bailey because it was discovered that she reportedly had six prior DUI arrests at the time of her arrest. Three of those arrests had occurred within the last three years and each case was still active in the court system in Chester County, according to police.

A detective with the West Whiteland Township Police Department made contact with Dixon by phone on Oct. 24 and advised her of the warrant. The detective told her that she needed to turn herself in. However, police said Dixon was arrested by the Westtown East Goshen Police Department for another alleged DUI on Nov. 1 in East Goshen Township. She was turned over to the West Whiteland Township Police Department for the warrant.
