One-party control must end in Delco
To the Times: As an independent Democrat, I was proud to represent a Republican Congressional District for four years, including a Republican-majority Delaware County. It gave me the appreciation that no one, and no political party, has a monopoly on good ideas or good people – particularly when either party is left alone too long to its own single-minded approach. This was a major reason I ran for the U.S. Senate against the Democratic power establishments in Washington, D.C., and Penn- sylvania.
Gripped too long by an entrenched Democratic Party leadership, what was good for people had become secondary to what advanced the party leadership’s interests – as they failed to listen, and be accountable, to the people.
Similarly, “one-party” rule is destructive to the accountability elected leaders must have to all people. And it is why a comparable change is needed in this Nov. 7 election to the Republicans’ decades-long “oneparty” control of every seat on the Dela- ware County Council as well as the county’s judiciary — the most important governance institutions in our county.
This is not about just trying to elect Democrats. This is about ensuring diverse representation and ideas for the people. And that is why I would vote for a Republican if the Delaware County Council and the county’s judiciary were composed of only Democrats. This is about the need for transparency and accountability to the people, which a “one-party” establishment rule of the County Council and the judiciary
