Woman in 70s shot on Chester street

CHESTER » A woman in her 70s was shot in the leg Friday night shortly after she got off a SEPTA bus for the short walk to her home, police said.

The woman, who was not identified, had just gotten off the bus at Ninth and Lamokin streets, according to a press release from Chester Police Capt. James Chubb. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatenin­g.

Chubb gave this account of the incident:

Officers received a call just before 10 p.m. Friday for a report of shots fired in the 900 block of Tilghman Street.

While in route to the scene, the call was upgraded to a shooting victim in a residence, in the 900 block of Lamokin Street.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim, identified as a woman in her 70s. She had suffered a gun shot wound to her right leg. The victim stated that she had just gotten off the bus at Ninth and Lamokin streets a few minutes prior, and began to walk north on Lamokin Street. As she began walking, she heard gun shots, then felt pain in her leg. She continued to walk to her residence where she called 911.

Police said they have not been able to determine if the woman was the victim of a stray bullet or if she was the intended target.

Paramedics transporte­d the woman to Crozer Chester Medical Center, where she was treated for her injuries. She is listed in good condition.

Police said that a short time later, a crime scene connected to the shooting was located in the area of Seventh and Lamokin streets. No further details on the crime scene were initially provided.
