Charity fundraising opportunity, visit with Santa at Boscov’s
MIDDLETOWN » Boscov’s Granite Run is offers charities the opportunity to raise money for their cause as well as spread awareness and holiday cheer this season. Charities may sign up their organization to wrap customers’ gifts in exchange for a donation from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday-Sunday between Nov. 17Dec. 24.
Boscov’s offers free gift wrapping all year round at our Courtesy Desk, but customers may choose to have their items wrapped by the participating charity in exchange for a donation to support their cause during this season of giving.

Boscov’s Granite Run welcomes Santa as he arrives from the North Pole at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17. Customers are invited to greet Santa as he arrives escorted by the Rocky Run Fire Department and Penncrest Band outside of the shoe department entrance. Customers are encouraged to arrive before 6 p.m. to line up outside the entrance in the designated area.
Immediately following his arrival, customers are invited inside to take free photos with Santa with their own camera or phone in the Seasonal Department on the second level.

Eat sandwiches, benefit police
County Savings Bank hosts a fundraiser for VestA-Cop on Friday, Nov. 17. County Savings Bank locations at 10 Powhatten Ave., Essington, and 201 Milmont Ave., Milmont Park, are selling Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, chips, sweets and drinks to benefit the organization. Cash and check donations are also accepted.
Vest-A- Cop’s primary mission is to raise funds to purchase bullet proof vests so every police officer in Delaware County is protected. Vest-A- Cop is under the umbrella of Taylor Community Foundation, a 501(C)(3) charity.
Art event in downtown Chester
CHESTER » Chester Made holds a reception and art auction for its “Broken Pieces” exhibit from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at its Chester Made Makerspace, 511 Avenue of the States. This event is a celebration of the makerspace, honoring community members who’ve contributed hard work, big ideas, connections and creations to make it successful.
For five Sundays this fall, Chester Made Artistic Director Devon Walls led an arts and humanities-therapy workshop called “Broken Pieces” in the Chester Made Makerspace. Participants worked together to revalue found objects and incorporate them into their own mixed-media work. Along the way, they talked about the role of reclaiming, repurposing and rebuilding themselves and their communities.

UPPER DARBY » Delaware County Intermediate Unit is offers a free parent workshop, “Managing Children with Autism at Home and in the Community,” from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at Drexel Hill Middle School, 3001 State Road.
The day and life of a child with Autism can be challenging. This course is designed to provide practical strategies to help children manage stressful situations such as transitioning between activities and dealing with sensory overload. Strategies discussed include establishing a predictable routine, teaching self-regulation, use of visual support, social stories and power cards. This course is geared toward parents of children in elementary school.

Veterans Day in Brookhaven
BROOKHAVEN » The borough holds its Veterans Service on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. on the municipal island outside of 2 Cambridge Drive. The ceremony includes music from the Saint James Choir, a wreath laying at the borough war memorials with Taps being played, and guest speakers discussing veterans issues.
Pastor Ben Grenier of Full Gospel Church provides the invocation and benediction, and American Legion Post 94 Commander Harry Seth serves as master of ceremonies. Light refreshments are served following the ceremony.
Free pet adoption for veterans
UPPER PROVIDENCE » In honor of Veterans Day, Providence Animal Center offers free pet adoptions for veterans and free rabies shots for the owned pets of veterans.
Free pet adoptions for veterans are offered on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, while free rabies shots are held on Friday, Nov. 10, in Providence Animal Center’s Wellness Clinic. Cats and kittens and dogs aged 6-plus months old apply to the free pets special.
While the adoptions are free, veterans are still required to go through Providence’s regular adoption process and application, which is outlined at www. providenceac.org
Providence Animal Center’s Adoption Center is open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. The Wellness Clinic is open from 9:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10. Wellness Clinic appointments are required and can be made by calling 610-566-1370, ext. 3. The Adoption Center and Wellness Clinic are located at 555 Sandy Bank Road, Media.
Veterans must show proof of service to receive a free adoption fee or free Rabies vaccines in the Wellness Clinic.

Hear true story of Benedict Arnold
ASTON » Aston Township Historical Society welcomes local amateur historian Albert Eelman to its quarterly meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Aston Township Community Center, 3720 Concord Road.
Eelman, a longtime Concord Township resident, speaks on the one of the areas of American history he concentrates on, the story of the betrayal by Gen. Benedict Arnold. There is a lot more to Gen. Arnold’s story that the general public might know and Eelman shares those details with the audience. What really motivated a military hero to turn coat of his country? This timely lecture caps the anniversary of the 240th commemoration of the Battle of Brandywine. This talk bookend the popular talk earlier this year highlighting Peggy Shippen Arnold and Mrs. Leiper by Angela Hewitt of the Leiper House.
This lecture is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30. Please bring old photos for scanning, and see any of the board members about volunteer opportunities. Donations are always appreciated. ATHS T-shirts will also be available for sale (in time for Christmas shopping).
