Legion retires boycotts NFL flags,

UPPER CHICHESTER » American Legion Post 951, 2638 Ogden Ave., Ogden, invites the public to a Solemn Flag Retirement Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. Those who have any worn or tattered flags that are no longer serviceabl­e may bring them to be retired. For those who cannot attend the ceremony, the post has a drop-off container out front to collect flags to be retired. The post always welcomes new members; stop in any time for informatio­n and an applicatio­n.

The post recalls Nancy Reagan’s quote of “Just say no” and says no to insulting the flag, veterans and active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces, and police officers and yes to honoring the military with a with a Veterans Day weekend boycott of the NFL.

The nationwide boycott of all TV and radio broacasts and stadium attendence is set for Sunday, Nov. 12. As part of the boycott, Post 951 hosts a daylong continuous loop of the 1980 World Series Champion Phillies DVD Series, drink specials, food from Don’s and Lia’s, and live acoustic music with Rita Miller from 3-6 p.m.

Media parade set for Friday

MEDIA » The borough holds its 58th Veterans Day Parade on Friday, Nov. 10. Participan­ts begin to assemble at 10 a.m.; parade launches at 11:11. Veterans of all wars walk together as thousands line the streets to honor their courage and sacrifice.

Masters of ceremony are borough Mayor Bob McMahon and Mr. Robert Dimond, and grand marshals are Capt. Maureen Robinson (Army Nurse Corps, retired) and her son Mark Robinson. In case of rain, ceremonies will be moved to the Media Theatre.

Veterans Day in Brookhaven

BROOKHAVEN » The borough holds its Veterans Service on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. on the municipal island outside of 2 Cambridge Drive. The ceremony includes music from the Saint James Choir, a wreath laying at the borough war memorials with Taps being played, and guest speakers discussing veterans issues.

Pastor Ben Grenier of Full Gospel Church provides the invocation and benedictio­n, and American Legion Post 94 Commander Harry Seth serves as master of ceremonies. Light refreshmen­ts are served following the ceremony.

Mobile vets office visits Delco

MEDIA » State Sen. Tom McGarrigle (26) and Rep. Chris Quinn (R-168) announce that the Pennsylvan­ia Department of Military and Veteran Affairs’ mobile office van is Delaware County from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the corner of Front and Orange streets.

Accredited veterans service officers provide informatio­n and assistance to veterans and family members who may be eligible for benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Such benefits might include service-connected disability compensati­on, improved pensions, death pensions, VA health care

benefits, burial benefits, education benefits, vocational rehabilita­tion and much more.

“This is part of an effort to make benefits informatio­n more accessible to state veterans and family members,” McGarrigle said. “I hope area veterans take advantage of this opportunit­y to learn about benefits designed to help those who served our nation.”
